LBCC Holds Third-Annual Welcome Day Open House

Linn-Benton Community College will host its third-annual “Welcome Day” open house Wednesday, Sept. 19. The activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany campus.

“Oh, The Things You Will Find!” is the theme for this year’s Welcome Day, an annual event for new and returning students to learn about what the college has to offer this school year.

Festivities begin with a 10:30 a.m. kickoff in the Russell Tripp Performance Center in Takena Hall. It will feature LBCC’s award-winning choirs “The Sirens” and “Blue Light Special,” along with a welcome by LBCC President Greg Hamann.

Students can enter to win prizes, as well as a chance to win a 60-second shopping spree from the college bookstore.

Campus groups, clubs and community organizations will have displays in the courtyard quad. Additional activities include a fashion show in the Commons cafeteria at noon, with free pizza samples from the college wood-fired oven.

Students can join in a self-led campus scavenger hunt, giving them a change to tour campus, meet instructors and staff, and get their books and school supplies. Those who complete the scavenger hunt also will have a chance to win prizes, including tuition certificates and bookstore gift cards.

LBCC’s Welcome Day, along with efforts such as Destination Graduation, is designed to help students succeed in college as well as making them aware of available resources. Hundreds of students will be on campus for Welcome Day as they will attend their first session of Destination Graduation.
