LBCC Welding Fabrication Team SkillsUSA Competition
Linn-Benton Community College’s Welding Fabrication team received high marks in the 47th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Kansas City in June. The LBCC team competed against 17 other college teams to design and build a welding demonstration table, which they drafted and submitted drawings for before the competition. Each team was provided with the same materials and equipment and allotted six and one-half hours to complete their design. Teams were scored for accuracy, safety, teamwork, drawing quality and complete use of all materials without waste. The LBCC team received high marks for safety and teamwork. “The entire Skills USA national competition is huge,” said LBCC welding faculty member and team advisor Fred Stuewe. “Thousands of kids come to this week long event.” LBCC team members include first-year students Tim Burns from Philomath, Matt Perry from Lebanon and Andrew Gustafson from Albany.
