Students Named to OCCA All Oregon Academic Team

Ilex Karstens Rebekah Pennington Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Community College Association will honor two Linn-Benton Community College students as part of the OCCA All Oregon Academic Team.   Ilex Karstens, a pre-dental hygiene major, and Rebekah Pennington, a nursing major, both Albany residents, will be honored at a luncheon with the Governor and the other Oregon community college student winners at the state capitol April 30. Karstens is a four-point honor roll student who serves as an executive assistant for LBCC Student Government and is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll Society. Pennington, also an honor roll student, serves as Phi Theta Kappa - LBCC chapter president, and serves as a member of the LBCC Student Leadership Council Judiciary Board and a CASA volunteer. LBCC Students Named to OCCA All Oregon Academic Team

Governor John Kitzhaber and the Oregon Community College Association will honor two Linn-Benton Community College students as part of the OCCA All Oregon Academic Team.   Alisha Haskett, networking and systems administration major from Sweet Home and Willard W. Hucks III, accounting technology major from Albany, will be honored at a luncheon with the Governor April 22. Both will receive a plaque from the OCCA and a $1,000 scholarship from Oregon State University, where they plan to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree after finishing at LBCC. The Oregon Community College Association, in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa, recognizes outstanding students yearly from Oregon’s community colleges through the All Oregon Academic Team awards.

Charly Hemphill Governor John Kitzhaber and the Oregon Community College Association will honor two students from Linn-Benton Community College in April as part of the OCCA All-Oregon Academic Team .   Charly Hemphill, a networking and systems administration major from Sweet Home and Jeff Lehn, an accounting technology major from Albany, will be honored at a luncheon with the Governor, where each will receive a plaque from the OCCA and a $1,000 scholarship from the university they plan to attend after graduating from LBCC. Hemphill is a member of the LBCC  Jeff Lehn chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and serves on the LBCC’s Student Life and Leadership Council. He plans to transfer to Oregon State University to complete his bachelor’s degree. Lehn currently serves as senior vice president of LBCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, and plans to transfer to OSU to complete his bachelor’s degree. Anthony Hewson, a computer science major at Linn-Benton Community College, has been nominated to the 2012 Oregon Community College Association All-Oregon Academic Team representing LBCC. Hewson will be honored, along with students nominated from Oregon’s 16 other community colleges, at a luncheon with the Governor in April, where he will receive a plaque from the OCCA and a $1,000 scholarship from the university he plans to attend after graduating from LBCC. Hewson, an Albany resident, is a member of the LBCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa . He plans to transfer to Oregon State University to complete his bachelor’s degree in computer science. The Oregon Community College Association , in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa , recognizes outstanding students from Oregon’s community colleges yearly.
