LBCC To Hold Community Conversation Meeting in Corvallis

A community conversation will be held at Linn-Benton Community College’s Benton Center, 757 Polk Ave., Tuesday, August 26 at 5:30 p.m. in room 204 to discuss options for LBCC to meet the education needs of Corvallis and Benton County. LBCC and Benton Center staff will host the conversation and be available to answer questions. This meeting is the latest in a series of meetings encouraging community input into LBCC services in Corvallis and Benton County.

Alternative Fuels Pioneer Brian Trice Joins ATTC

Brian Trice Brian Trice has joined Linn-Benton Community College’s Advanced Transportation Technology Center as manager of its Alternate Fuel Transportation section. The 45-year-old Trice, of Gresham, has been actively involved in the transportation industry for a number of years, helping to transform the industry towards energy independence through his work in alternative fuel energies including compressed natural gas, liquid natural gas, propane, hybrid, hydraulic hybrid and electric. “I’m excited about being at the ATTC,” said Trice. “I’ve had a really good working relationship with these guys over the past few years, and have a lot of passion for working with alternative fuels and working at a grass-roots level to educate the market place.” Trice plans to help grow the alternative fuels side of the ATTC program, offering trade workshops, conferences and expos targeted toward industry.  “Brian Trice is one of the nation’s leaders in organizing alternative fuel conferences,” said

Pharmacy Technician Information Session

LBCC will hold three free Pharmacy Technician Program pre-application information sessions for those interested in training to work as a Pharmacy Technician. Sessions will be held Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Monday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way, Lebanon. No need to preregister to attend. Attendance at an information session is mandatory in order to take the program. The 18-week Pharmacy Technician Program starts Feb. 2 and runs through June 5, 2015. Skill areas covered include customer service, pharmacy math, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical vocabulary, prescriptions, billing, insurance, industry software, pharmacology and on-the-job training. Theater Department Receives Oregon Cultural Trust Grant

The Oregon Cultural Trust has granted funding to Linn-Benton Community College’s theater department for the project “Bridges,” a community engaged arts project working with residents of the city of Independence. The $10,300 grant will be used to produce an original play through the theater department’s Sanctuary Stage, a program for creating community plays. “Bridges” will focus on the lives, experiences and challenges of Latino families living in Independence. The play will be developed using information from story circles, interviews and public forums with residents, and will be directed by LBCC theater faculty and executive director of the Majestic Theater in Corvallis, Tinamarie Ivy. The Bridges project hopes to involve approximately 1,200 Polk County residents to participate in the creation and performance of the play about Latino culture and history in Independence, with a goal of strengthening inter-generational and cross-cultural relationships.
