Career Technical Education Signing Day stats

81 students from 27 high schools attended the national Career Technical Education Signing Day at Linn-Benton Community College Feb. 15, where they signed letters of intent to guarantee a spot in one of LBCC’s CTE programs starting next fall. Programs seeing the largest turnout were welding with 23 students and heavy equipment diesel training with 18. Students also signed up to attend programs in culinary arts, horticulture, medical assistant, accounting, network administration, business management, machine tool, mechatronics, CADD, water, environment and technology, non-destructive test, and automotive tech. Held in partnership with Albany Pipeline to Jobs and the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), CTE Sign Day is a national event with 55 community colleges and trade schools across the country participating this year. Dave Turin from Gold Rush Presentation Feb. 16

Dave Turin Dave Turin from the Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush series will give a free presentation at Linn-Benton Community College Thursday, Feb. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Forum, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Turin, from Gresham, is a former high school and college football star who graduated from Portland State University with a degree in civil engineering. While working as vice president of the family rock quarry business, Turin joined the Gold Rush series in 2011, after appearing as a guest in several episodes during season one. Turin will be keynote speaker at LBCC’s Career Technical Education Signing Day held at the college Feb. 16. The presentation is free and open to the public.
