LBCC Chamber Choir takes gold in international competition

The Linn-Benton Community College Chamber Choir won gold and were category winners in the Chamber Choir Division at the International Johannes Brahms Choral Competition and Festival held in Wernigerode, Germany July 5-9. Conducted by LBCC Choral Director Raymund Ocampo, the choir also won gold in the Sacred Division, and landed a spot in the Grand Champions competition, which included the best of all choirs at the festival. LBCC’s choir also performed at the closing ceremony. The International Johannes Brahms Choral Competition and Festival is hosted by Interkultur, and attracts choirs and music ensembles from around the world to compete. The math department is in the midst of big changes to the developmental math sequence. Beginning fall term 2017, the college will no longer offer math 20, 60 or 65. Instead, the math department has created two new developmental courses, while keeping an altered version of math 95: Math 50 and Math 75.  Programs that require Math 20, 60 and 65 as prerequisites or co-requisites will change to either the MTH 050-MTH 111 pathway or the MTH 098-MTH 105 pathway. With a goal of completion in mind, the new math pathways are designed to decrease the number of classes required to start transfer level courses, as well as to provide better CTE math courses and alternative pathways for non-stem students. 2017 is already starting to be an exciting year for LB iLearn Online, with this month marking iLearn's two-year anniversary. LBCC Fall Choral Concert “Home is Where Hope Abides”

Raymund Ocampo Linn-Benton Community College’s first choral concert conducted by new choral director Raymund Ocampo will be performed Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. "Home is Where Hope Abides" features LBCC's award-winning Concert Choir, Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir, and the vocal a cappella groups Blue Light Special and The Sirens. Penny Bazanele will accompany on piano. Choral works to be performed include: “My Lord has Come” by British composer Will Todd; “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” arranged by the late Steve Zegree; “We Three Kings” arranged by Darmon Meader; “Unclouded Day” by Shawn Kirchner; “Homeward Bound” arranged by Jay Althouse; “A La Nanita Nana” arranged by Ed Henderson; and “Festival Sanctus” by John Leavitt. LBCC Choirs Advance in International Rankings

Linn-Benton Community College’s Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir has achieved a ranking of 137 of the top 1,000 choirs worldwide. Interkultur, sponsors of the World Choir Games and official keepers of the World Choir Rankings, officially updated the rankings based on more than 16 years of competitions and global rankings with many different factors. A successful competition in the 8th World Choir Games this past summer landed LBCC’s Chamber Choir a world champion title. The updated ranking moved the choir up over 400 places, and also placed the choir at 21 of the top 50 chamber choirs in the world. In addition, LBCC’s Concert Choir is now ranked in the top 1,000 choirs worldwide, at 963, a first for the concert choir to be officially ranked globally.
