Approximately 70 area high school students signed letters of intent to attend LBCC next fall as part of the Career Technical Education Signing Day held February 16. LBCC was one of 40 colleges across the nation to participate in the National CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day , held to showcase young people who are committed to technical and industrial careers. Around 200 people attended the event, including industry representatives from both local and national businesses. High school seniors signed letters for their program of choice, which guarantees them a seat in the program for next fall. LBCC’s SSH Gallery Show and Reception for Stone and Hammond

The creative work of LBCC theater instructor Dan Stone and stage manager Leslie Hammond will be on view in the LBCC South Santiam Hall Gallery, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany, through March 4. Stone is presenting a selection of original hand-molded masks and hand-sewn costumes from past productions he has directed. The masks and costumes were made by Stone and his wife, Tina Marie, and are based on his long time interest and research into Commedia dell' Arte, an important theater form that began in the 14th century and that became very popular during the 17th and 18th centuries in Italy. Though it has a long tradition, it continues to be an influential art form in contemporary theater. Hammond is a master technical theater builder who has worked on numerous set constructions for productions across America. Community Education Theater Class for Teachers

Learn how to develop classroom presence and enthusiasm for teaching the art of theater in the class The Teacher as Instructor/Performer (CRN 37707) offered through Linn-Benton Community College Albany Community Education. Discover how to present a more visual and auditory experience to make the material come alive for your students. Instructor Rod Davidson has 25 years of professional acting experience in film, television and theatre. Learn the dynamic connection between acting on stage in front of an audience and teaching in a classroom. This six-week class will meet on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. starting Jan. 6 at Memorial Middle School, 1050 Queen Ave SW, Albany. Cost for this non-credit class is $45. Call for Auditions for Annual Children’s Play

Auditions for the 36th annual Linn-Benton Community College Children’s Play Nick Tickle, Fairytale Detective will be held on Monday, Nov. 15 and Tuesday, Nov. 16. Auditions will be held at 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. on both days in the Russell Tripp Performance Center in Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Scripts will be available for viewing in the theater box office starting Nov. 5. Directed by LBCC theater director Dan Stone, the play is a comedy by author Steph DeFerie about fairytale detective Nick Tickle who gets caught-up in trying to save the future of fairytales. As story props come up missing, Granny can’t tell her fairytales and calls on Nick, and some cleaver audience participation, to find the “Mysterious Figure” and to help solve the case. Performance dates for local schools are Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning February 8 and going through March 3. Public performances are Feb 20 and 26 at 3 p.m. There will be 16 performances in all.
