The 4th annual Chefs’ Show-Off cooking competition and food fair will be held Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Linn-Benton Community College Commons dining hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Cosponsored by Ten Rivers Food Web and LBCC Culinary Arts Department, this event showcases food and those who produce and process it from Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties. Taste samples from local chefs: Patti D’Eliseo, A Posto Personal Chef Services, Newport; Todd Ketterman, LBCC Culinary Arts instructor; J.C. Mersmann, Gathering Together Farm Restaurant, Philomath; and Mitch Rosenbaum, Mennonite Village, Albany. Chefs will be cooking using local ingredients and available to talk with guests about paring food with beer, wine, and cider. Admission includes sampling of products from local farms, restaurants, food businesses and LBCC Culinary Arts student creations during a Food Fair in the Commons dining room. This year’s competition features all women chefs, including: Chef Michele Bursey from ONA Restaurant in Yachats, Chef Kimber Hoang from Magenta in Corvallis, Chef Regina Iovino from Iovino’s at Enoteca/ Iovino’s Cucina & Catering in Corvallis, and Chef Karen Novak from Novak’s Hungarian Restaurant in Albany. Ten Rivers Food Web and Linn-Benton Community College Culinary Arts will host the 2nd Annual “Chefs’ Show-off” cooking competition on Sunday, April 10 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the LBCC Commons dining hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Four chefs from the Ten Rivers region, which covers Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties, will compete in a timed cook-off, each using the same ingredients from local farms, ranches and food producers. Competing chefs include Michael Walliser of Saffron Salmon in Newport, Nathan McClure with OSU Catering, Jason Devrouax of Clemenza’s in Albany, and Chad Pope of Cappies Brewhouse in Albany. OSU soil scientist and former chef James Cassidy will emcee the event. The chefs will be presented a table of produce, meat, herbs, eggs, dairy products, grains and other items donated by local farms, ranches and food processors from which to chose from to prepare a complete entrée.
