LBCC’s Performing Arts Department will present the musical revue “Life is a Cabaret” Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Forum building, room F-104, Albany campus. Not your typical music or theatrical revue, this concert will feature performances by LBCC students including everything from vocalists, instrumentals, improvisation, acting, musical theater and dancing to pop, rock, a cappella and everything in between.  Tickets are $5 general admission at the door. Limited space is still available for LBCC’s touring show How the Monkey Lost His Tail , for pre-kindergarten through second grade students with performances held on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 18 through Nov. 15. A traditional Japanese folktale of mistaken identity, the show presents students with an opportunity to connect to another culture and time period. Morning performances will be held at one school per day. Smaller schools may team-up for the same performance. At the end of the show, classes will be provided with activities guides and puppet outlines to help teachers and students design dynamic story times and projects. Space is limited. The Linn-Benton Community College choirs will perform their spring concert “The Olympic Journey: Going Places, ” on Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. LBCC director of choral activities, James Reddan, will conduct the performances of the Concert Choir, Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Blue Light Special and the Sirens. LBCC Performing Arts will present its unique take on the Greek tragedies of war in the play “The Agamemnon: Conquest-Revenge-Ritual.” Sneak peak here:  http://youtu.be/3sAO1tkDIqc Set 60-years into a post-apocalyptic future in a society that needs rebuilding, The Agamemnon is a retelling of the Trojan War and the tragedies of war, reverting to the old ways and religions. LBCC theater director Dan Stone aims to produce Greek theater such as it was in ancient times, but with relevance to today’s audience.  In this production he explores the world of myth and ritual by producing five traditional Greek tragedies: Iphigenia at Aulis, Hecuba, The Trojan Women, Agamemnon and Electra . These five plays show the progression of the effect of Agamemnon’s killing of the sacred stag, to the sacrifice of his daughter Iphigenia, to the sufferings of the Trojan women brought about by Agamemnon’s war, to his fatal homecoming where revenge is taken by his wife Clytemnes...

The theater department at Linn-Benton Community College will present its 37th Annual Children’s Theater production of the shadow puppet play Wiley and the Hairy Man at the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Wiley and the Hairy Man is an American Southern folk tale that originated as an oral tradition amongst African slaves. The play, adapted by by Suzan Zeder and directed by LBCC Theater Director Dan stone, is about a young boy, Wiley, who must go out into the swamp to build a hound house for his dog, but is afraid that the Hairy Man is lurking nearby. Wiley has to learn how to overcome his problems and his fear. LBCC’s Performing Arts Department will present “A Christmas Carol” starting Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. A contemporary take on the classic Charles Dickens tale, the play is set in America where Ebenezer Scrooge, a successful businesswoman, has built her money-making empire. Adapted by John Mortimer and directed by LBCC theater director Dan Stone, the play features puppetry, mask performance, original music and dance. Love, Lies and Lunacy is a performance of Flaminio Scala's senario, Isabella's Jealousy . The play is devised by the student actors and performed in the style of Commedia dell' Arte. Commedia dell’ Arte, loosely translated to "comedy of craft," is a form of theatre that began in Italy in the mid-16th century and is characterized by masked "types” and improvised performances based on sketches or scenarios. The Dance Club at Linn-Benton Community College will perform “Inspirations” on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
