Dr. Bruce Thomson speaks on “Health Care as a Human Right” Noon, Nov. 29

Dr. Bruce Thomson will speak on “Health Care as a Human Right” from Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Linn-Benton Community College in North Santiam Hall, room 206, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Dr. Thomson will focus on the need for universal health care in America and the implications of Oregon ballot measure 101 for our health care. Dr. Thomson completed his residency in family medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University in 1993, then joined Corvallis Family Medicine. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians Foundation and has been the Benton County Health Officer for almost 20 years, and was named Oregon Family Physician of the Year in 2001. Liberty Tree Fair May 11, 10am-2pm, Courtyard

A “Liberty Tree Fair” will be held Thursday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Linn-Benton Community College in the courtyard, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Political and social groups will provide information, including: Our Revolution of Albany; Linn County Democratic party; and Veterans for Peace, Corvallis. The fair will focus on progressive causes which emphasize economic, racial, and social justice and equal opportunity. A student speaking contest will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., in which LBCC students have five minutes to speak on an economic, political or social issue. Event is free and open to the public.
