Horse Camp for Teens starts Aug. 3

LBCC Community Education will hold a one-week horse camp for teens at Inavale Farms in Philomath starting August 3. Teen Ranch Horse Camp offers the adventure of horse handling, riding and working with gentle, well-trained horses. Students get hands-on instruction in grooming, tacking up, and basic horse care, along with basic riding skills of position, control and safety. For beginning riders ages 14-18. This one-week class will meet August 3 through August 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. at Inavale Farms in Philomath. Cost is $179. LBCC Dog Play at Benton Center starts July 29

The class “Dog Play” will be held at the LBCC Benton Center starting July 29. Cultivate your relationship with your dog by engaging in pet sport, games and positive play. Learn entertaining games and gain an introduction to popular sports including agility, flyball and canine nose work. Gain grooming tips and develop an even greater bond with your four-legged companion. This five-week class meets Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. starting July 29 at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 NW Polk Ave., Corvallis. Cost is $39. Digital Storytelling for Teens

Digital Storytelling for Teens will be offered at the LBCC Benton Center starting August 17. Teens will learn to translate words and images into a powerful story using a combination of narration, music, images, graphic design, photo manipulation and video editing. Class will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting August 17 from 9 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 NW Polk Ave., Corvallis. Cost is $89. LBCC Dog Training Classes offered in Albany & Corvallis

Dog Training Skills II class will be held at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany and Corvallis starting July 28 and 29. Build on skills learned in Dog Training I. Develop your dog's skills including precision heeling, new tricks and how to politely greeting strangers. Skills learned provide an excellent way to begin preparing for therapy work, rally obedience, competing in dog sports, or taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test.  This five-week class will be held at LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW on Tuesdays, from 6 to 6:50 p.m. starting July 28. Corvallis class will be held at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 NW Polk Ave on Wednesdays from 6 to 6:50 p.m. starting July 29. Cost for the class is $39. "Piano: Just for Fun" class

Learn to play piano in three hours in the class “Piano, Just for Fun” through LBCC Community Education July 25. Taught by nationally known pianist Donn Rochlin, this course teaches you all the chords and tools you need to know to play your favorite songs and to improvise freely without years of practice. Class is for the total beginner as well as classical pianists who would like to play with more artistic freedom. Textbook and CD for home study covered by fee. Preregistration required. Art & Etsy workshp for teens

The workshop Art and Etsy for Teens will be held at the Linn-Benton Community College Benton Center starting July 27.  This two-part workshop will help your teen get creative and market their work through Etsy online. Teens bring their own product to polish up, or discover their inner artist and bring to life a new creation. Sewing By Hand class for Teens

The teen sewing class “Sewing by Hand” will be held at the LBCC Benton Center Wednesday, July 29. Geocaching Using GPS class for Teens held August 1

Geocaching and GPS skills class for teens will be held at Linn-Benton Community College Saturday, August 1. Geocaching Using GPS will help teens learn potentially life-saving navigation skills using a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) while also enjoying one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities. There are thousands of geocaches in Linn and Benton counties for students to find using positioning and navigation technology in the great outdoors. July Cooking Classes for Teens

Don’t go out to eat. Let your teen learn to create great meals in cooking classes for teens offered through LBCC Community Education this month. In the class Pizza, Pizza, Pizza, students learn to master the basic Margherita pizza, then move on to the big leagues by creating their own unique pizza with choice of sauce, dough, and a variety of toppings. Class will meet Tuesday, July 14, from 1 to 3:50 p.m. at Santiam Christian School in Albany. Cost is $39. The class Open Minded Omelet will help your teen become a skilled omelet cook, creating dozens of omelet variations. ATTC receives $1.5 million boost in state budget

As part of a legislative effort to support statewide economic development and clean environment, the Advanced Transportation Technology Center at Linn-Benton Community College received $1.5 million in Oregon’s adopted state budget. The funding was an economic development allocation that came from outside the higher education budget. It will help build and equip phases II and III of the center, which will include space to provide training in alternative fuel vehicles for mechanics already working, as well as a new home for the heavy equipment/diesel technology program. The initial idea to advance the state’s economic development goals via support of the ATTC came from the Governor’s office, which included it in the Business Oregon budget. When it was cut from the budget, a bipartisan coalition of 21 State Representatives petitioned the budget co-chairs to include it elsewhere. LBCC Holds Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education Course

Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education (CCB) will be offered through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College. This five session course will meet July 14, 16, 21, and 23, from 6:00-10:00 pm, and Saturday, July 18 from 9:00 am -1:00 pm, on the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center room CC-213. The course is required for CCB licensing as part of the education requirement before taking the State of Oregon CCB exam. Participants are required to attend all five of the state-approved sessions to satisfy the educational requirement for Oregon contractor licensing. Topics include employer requirements and employee rights, Oregon lien and contract law, taxes/recordkeeping, best business practices, project and time management, estimating and scheduling, building codes, OR-OSHA requirements, job site safety, environmental laws, and test taking strategies in compliance with ORS 701-280.  Advance registration is required by July 7. LBCC Space Rockets: Second Year and Going Up!

Eight members of the LBCC Space Exploration Club headed to Wallops at the end of June for a RockSat-C workshop, where the students assembled a payload project that was attached to a two-stage rocket and launched on June 25, reaching an altitude of 71 miles, officially in space.
