LBCC shuts water off at eight sinks following lead testing Linn-Benton Community College has shut off water to eight sinks at three of its facilities where lead in the water exceeded Environmental Protection Agency actionable levels. The college tested 171 water sources where people might draw drinking water across all of its locations. Of the eight that exceeded EPA limits, five of the sinks were located at the Albany campus, two at the downtown center in Lebanon, and one in the basement of the Benton Center in Corvallis. The sinks will remain shut off until they are re-plumbed and retested in coming weeks, according to Dave Henderson, vice president for Finance and Operations. Testing was done using EPA guidelines, which call for the water to remain stagnant in the lines for at least 8 hours. Linn-Benton Community College has agreed to purchase a property near the Benton Center in Corvallis that will allow it to build 20,000 square feet of additional classroom space and increase parking to meet current and future demand. The LBCC Board of Education approved a $3 million sale agreement for the property, which includes about two-and-a-half acres of land and a 12,000-square-foot building, at its Wednesday, Jan. 20 meeting. The land is currently leased by First Student, a school transportation company, which uses the land and building for parking and maintenance of school buses. The property includes a small frontage on 9th Street and its address is 931 Reiman Street Northwest. The deal includes contingencies. LBCC must work with First Student to find an acceptable alternative to relocate their operation. Dave Henderson was hired as the new vice president of Finance and Operations at Linn-Benton Community College effective May 1. Henderson has served as interim vice president, replacing outgoing vice president Jim Huckestein, who took a position at Clackamas Community College at the end of February. Henderson’s experience includes directing operations of three Oregon offices of U.S. Representative Greg Walden, directing the business services department of Marion County, and serving as the administrator for the Oregon State Capitol, leading its five support units. His has extensive leadership experience in facilities management, facility services, financial services, human resources and risk management. Henderson will be responsible for the college finance and budget, information technology, institutional research, facilities management, public safety and risk management, food services, bookstore and printing operations.
