An exhibit of watercolors by artist and LBCC alumna Elizabeth Zimmerman, entitled “Western Gold,” will be shown November 9 through December 4 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany, OR. A reception and gallery talk will be held Thursday, November 19 at 2 p.m. in the Gallery. Zimmerman is a watercolorist in the western art tradition. Her work tells tales of characters, both human and equine, that she has met and interacted with over her time as a horse wrangler and camp counselor in Oregon and New Mexico. Zimmerman's work has been featured in galleries and exhibits around Oregon, including the Rogue Gallery in Medford and the Hoffman Gallery in Portland. She won Best of Show in Watercolor at the St. Paul Rodeo Wild West Art Show for the last two years. The exhibit “Ourselves, Our Environment and Modernist Abstraction” will be on display through October 30 in the South Santiam Hall and Calapooia Center Galleries at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The body of work by LBCC art faculty member and department chair Dori Bartholomew Litzer includes colorful oil paintings that reflect “both long held interest in modernist abstraction and a compulsion to visually express sensory aspects of our environment,” said Litzer. A reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 from 12 to 1:30 p.m., and from 5 to 7 p.m., in the South Santiam Hall Gallery. Litzer’s work can be viewed online at www.dorilitzerart.com . An exhibit of prints from Oregon State University’s Cascade Print Exchange IX, will be shown through April 24 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany. The 105 prints on display are from this year’s Cascade Print Exchange. Because of their multiplicity, prints are often traded from artist to artist. Print exchanges foster a communication of ideas, explore others’ techniques as well as give a chance to form a connection between artists who have never met one another before. Each artist in the CPE IX submitted his or her image in an edition of 15 identical 5 x 7 inch prints. The prints were created with relief, intaglio, lithography, serigraph or any combination of those techniques. In exchange, each participating artist will receive a portfolio of 13 randomly selected prints for their collection and a catalogue with images of all the submitted prints. An exhibit by artist Kathryn Cellerini Moore entitled Ruby Boots will on display March 2-20 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW. A reception and gallery talk will be held Thursday, March 5, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the gallery. The works in this exhibit question how early life experiences effect the artist’s daily interactions and ongoing health complications. Ekphrasis III, an exhibit of poetry and photography by mid-valley writers and artists, will be on view during February at the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The exhibit features 26 photographs by members of the Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild, accompanied by the poems they inspired from the student and faculty poets at LBCC. A reception and book release will be held in the gallery on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 12 to 1 p.m., when the poets will read from their work and be available to sign copies of the exhibit catalog. The show “Viviendo Muerto!” featuring the work of marquetry artist Christian Barrios will be shown through Jan. 30 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany. A reception and gallery talk will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. in SSH Gallery.     Born in Mexico City, Barrios learned ceramic painting at a very young age. After moving to the US, he learned the art of marquetry and now creates beautiful images from exotic woods on panel. “Every time I start working on a new piece of art, I experiment with the exotic wood to form my work,” said Barrio. “Each becomes a new challenge for me and it motivates and inspires me to create.” Along with several large-scale, inlayed wood pieces, the show includes some of Barrios’ photography. Photographer Al Crane will exhibit his work titled “Scan Art and Digital Manipulations” Nov. 10 through Dec. 4 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany. A reception and gallery talk will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 12 to 1 p.m.     The exhibit includes more than 30 archival inkjet prints that create cohesive, visual narratives that articulate ideas related to impermanence and the passing of time, life and love. Crane uses the technique of scanning natural elements and found objects on a flatbed scanner, combining his own images along with vintage photographs or tintypes from photographers and subjects that are no longer known. From Southern Oregon, Crane has a master’s degree in photography, and bachelor’s degrees in graphic design and civil engineering. He has been making photographs for almost 30 years using both traditional film/darkroom methods and digital media.   ...

Faculty Art Exhibit in South Santiam Hall Gallery. Linn-Benton Community College faculty members Dori Litzer, Analee Fuentes, Andy Myers, Kathryn Cellerini Moore, Deanne Beausoleil, Lewis Franklin and Frossene King will exhibit their work in the South Santiam Hall Galleries at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 SW Pacific Blvd, Albany through Oct. 30. A reception and artist talk is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23, from noon to 1 p.m. in the South Santiam Hall Gallery. The faculty show includes a strong and diverse body of work, from large oil paintings by Dori Litzer to intricate collages and monoprints by Analee Fuentes. Small linoleum block prints by Fuentes will be available for sale during the show, benefiting the Oregon Latino Scholarship Fund. SSH Gallery admission is free and open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A reception and gallery talk will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5:30 - 7 p.m.     "Myphoneography" features more than 20 prints by the two artists, who use their mobile phones to capture images encountered in their everyday lives and then apply various "apps" to achieve painterly results.     Sloma is presenting a selection from her "Treescapes" series, which she describes as poems painted on the sky:  "When viewed against the open sky, the tree becomes the landscape.  The open sky becomes an empty canvas to paint upon.  I create unreal scenes, but find them grounded to earthly reality through the recognizable skeleton of the trees."...

Dave McIntire photograph - Mt. Rainer "Renticular Cloud." An exhibit of photographs of Mount Rainier by Corvallis photographer Dave McIntire will be on display Jan. 9-31 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany. A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The public is invited. The exhibit features more than 20 of McIntire's large color and black-and-white images, many of which are being shown publicly for the first time. Several reveal the massive, 14,411-foot volcanic peak surrounded by dramatic, swirling clouds and cloaked in snow and ice. Others explore the glaciers slowly snaking down the mountain's slopes, and the many waterfalls, wildflower meadows and tumbling steams in the surrounding wilderness. South Santiam Hall Gallery More than 25 art faculty from Clatsop, Mt. Hood and Linn-Benton community colleges are exhibiting their work at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, through December 6. “Community Ground v.2” fills three galleries on campus, with over 100 works of art in a wide array of media, including painting, ceramics, metal-smithing, photography, drawing, mixed media and installation art.  The traveling exhibit is intended to celebrate the work of teaching artists and the role their art plays as a source of inspiration to their students and the community.  The exhibit at LBCC is the second of three shows that grew out of collaboration between the three colleges. The first show was held at Clatsop last January, and the third will be held at Mt. Hood in 2014. Kurt Norlin - "Voodoo" Albany photographer Kurt Norlin will be exhibiting a series of recent black-and-white photographs from Feb. 11 to March 22 in the South Santiam Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. In “Alternate Vision,” Norlin shares his close observations of his immediate surroundings, usually gleaned from long walks through neighborhoods, down back alleys and along riverfront paths. His photographs, made in the “toy camera” aesthetic, become a series of visual bookmarks for the often-overlooked glimpses hidden all around us. “Over the years I have become more and more interested in the essence of a place, rather than the pure descriptive fact,” Norlin says. “To that end, I started shooting with toy and pinhole cameras in the early 1990s in order to capture that essence.” For his recent work, Norlin has turned to digital cameras with plastic optics to create the softly focused, dreamlike quality characteristic of his work. Paintings by Portland artist and LBCC graduate Robert Story are on exhibit in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, in Albany through Feb. 1. A reception and gallery talk will be held on Tuesday Jan. 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the gallery. Story describes his exhibit, titled “Ruminations In the Outside,” as “a playground for my thoughts and emotions, as well as a catharsis.”  He said he paints in order to express his thoughts aesthetically. "Place & Time," Frossene King "Mobil Homes," Andy Myers “Place,” a multi-media exhibit by Corvallis artists Frossene King and Andy Myers, is on exhibit in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, in Albany, through Dec. 7. The visual art faculty at Linn-Benton Community College are opening the 2012-13 Fall Term with their annual exhibit in the South Santiam Hall and Calapooia Center galleries on LBCC’s Albany Campus. Featured in the show are oil paintings and drawings by Department Chair Dori Bartholomew Litzer; charcoal drawings by Analee Fuentes; large-scale oil paintings by Gary Westford; wood-fired ceramics by Jay Widmer; photographs by Kurt Norlin; and lithographs by Frosene King. “A Glimpse of Wild India,” photographs by Santa Fe photographer Joan Myers, will be on exhibit Sept. 4 – 21 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany, OR. A special pre-opening gallery talk and book signing will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit includes 17 large color photographs from Myers’ latest book, “The Jungle at the Door,” which takes viewers inside India’s last remaining wildlife refuges for glimpses of Bengal tigers, Indian elephants, one-horned rhinoceros and other species, many of which are endangered or threatened. Myers also explores the rural villages and religious shrines on the jungles’ outskirts. Unlike a traditional wildlife photographer intent on isolating specimens with super-telephoto lenses, Myers’ instead takes her inspiration from Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So” stories, and the result is an exhibit that gives viewer...

“Nine by Nine: Designing Words,” a collaborative exhibit by student designers and poets at Linn-Benton Community College, is on view in the college’s South SantiamHall Gallery May 21 through June 8. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 3:30 p.m. in the SSH Gallery, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The exhibit showcases the illustrations of nine graphic design students who created their work in response to nine original poems written by student and faculty poets. The show pairs the illustrations with the poems that inspired each of them, and the poetry itself has been lettered for display by the design students.  “It is a pleasure and an honor to combine our word craft with the fine work of the graphic design students,” said Ruth Krueger, LBCC’s student poet laureate. “We hope the combined art stirs within the audience a desire to search for meaning, to find life.” Krueger, a resident of Lebanon, is one of the nine poets participating in the show. ...

A collection of drawings titled “Faces of Horror” by artist Kevin Perry of Junction City will be on view in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 SW Pacific Blvd., through March 9. Perry, a former graphics student at LBCC, traces his interest in drawing to his youth. “I spent a lot of time with my trusty No. 2 pencil and a piece of notebook paper during my childhood years,” he said. “I was more interested in doodling something cool or funny to show my classmates that paying attention to the teacher.” While drawing continues to be his favorite art form, Perry says he also has dabbled in other media, including sculpture, tattoos and monument design. He was the designer of two structures that stand outside his alma mater, Junction City High School, one honoring WWII veterans and the other commemorating the school’s centennial. LBCC SSH Gallery Show “Painting My Way Through Cancer” Opens Jan. 9 Salem Painter Explores Her Recovery from Cancer “Painting My Way Through Cancer,” an exhibit by Salem artist Susan Trueblood Stuart, will be on view Jan. 9 through Feb. 10 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany, Oregon. A public reception for the artist will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the gallery. The artist is exhibiting a collection of about 20 paintings made over the past four years that reflect the anguish, pain and perseverance she experienced during her battle against cancer. Trueblood Stuart was diagnosed with cancer of the jaw in 2007 and has undergone several surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatment since then. While the cancer is currently in remission, she continues to receive treatment to rebuild and strengthen her jaw, which was ravaged by the disease. “This series depicts that which I felt before and after surgery,” she ...

The art show “Mutual Appreciation” will open Nov. 1 at Linn-Benton Community College’s South Santiam Hall Gallery, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The show features paintings, drawings and printmaking works from eight Oregon State University students and recent graduates, three of which are former LBCC art students. Artists include Nick Campbell, Max Krueger, Angela Lasky, Amanda Sause, Gabrielle Snider, Ira Strubhar, Christy Turner and Vesper White. A public reception is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 18, from noon to 1 p.m. in the gallery. The show is guest-curated by former LBCC art major Gabrielle Snider, who is also a participant in the show.
