South Albany High School Theater Arts will partner with Linn-Benton Community College this fall to produce the musical “Legally Blonde, The Musical,” which will play at LBCC’s Russell Tripp Performance Center in January.    Benjamin Sell, director of Theater Arts at South Albany , said the partnership provides an opportunity for his students to work with LBCC’s theater department , and gives the school a larger venue for its performance.  "One of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my career was turning people away at the door from this years’ sold out performances of Back to the 80's," said Sell. LBCC Performing Arts will perform the play “The Path of True Love” 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, 18 and 19 in the atrium outside the college Bookstore, Calapooia Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The student-directed play is produced in the Commedia dell’ Arte style, a popular form of Italian theater during the Renaissance that combines the use of masks and improvisational slapstick comedy with singing and dancing. This fun, lighthearted play features many of stock characters from the original play including Captain Spavento, Isabella, Franceschina and others. The play spins the story of Captain Spavento, who decides to marry Isabella with the approval of her father, only to find Isabella and her maid, Franceschina, have come up with a convoluted plan to keep Isabella away from the Captain and in the arms of her true love. “Improv Comedy Jam” will be held Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Linn-Benton Community College’s Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. This live comedy show features spontaneous scenes and games in the style of the popular TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Performers include actors from LBCC, South and West Albany High Schools, Oregon State University, Open Source Improv and Majestic Improv, with several scenes played by Improv veterans from the region. Audience participation is encouraged, including shouting out suggestions for scenes and joining the actors on stage for "all play" community games. Linn-Benton Community College and the Majestic Theater are calling for playwrights, actors and directors to participate in a 24-hour, ten-minute, Play-in-a-Day to be performed Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Majestic. Playwrights, directors and actors will write, rehearse and perform six original plays created and rehearsed within a day. This fast-paced event provides opportunities to work with and meet lots of people. "Comedy Syndicate," LBCC Performing Arts students, to perform improv at the Albany Eagles Club Nov. 17. The improv sketch comedy ensemble “Comedy Syndicate” will perform Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Albany Eagles Club , 127 NW Broadalbin Street. Inspired by the popular comedy shows “Who's Line is it Anyway” and Drew Carey's “Improviganza,” the show brings live comedy front and center, as performed by Linn-Benton Community College Performing Arts students.
