The exercise class Strength and Balance for Seniors will be held through LBCC Community Education in Lebanon starting June 29. The class focuses on the exercise portion of the program called A Matter of Balance, developed and used by Oregon Health Sciences University’s ThinkFirst Oregon Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Prevention Program. Learn chair exercises and standing exercises to find ways to reduce fall risk factors while working to increase leg strength, balance and flexibility. Explore strategies for moving through your day in a thoughtful and safe way. The class Body and Breath Yoga will be held through LBCC Community Education in Lebanon starting June 30. Class is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced yogis. Students learn techniques to open and lengthen the body while noticing and focusing on the breath to strengthen and calm while moving with intention and exploring each pose. Poses are designed to help support you as you develop balance, coordination and flexibility, and release tension and tightness in the body. Props and modifications will be available. An introductory ceramics class will be held at the LBCC Benton Center in Corvallis starting June 28. Clay for Beginners covers ceramic techniques including the foundations of working with clay. Students learn how to work with soft slabs to hand-build bowls, mugs, and tumblers while building on basic techniques each week. No experience necessary. A dog training class for puppies ages four to 12 months will be held through LBCC Community Education starting June 26. Puppy Essentials covers the basics in puppy training including recall, loose leash walking, don’t jump up, focus and important socialization skills in a fun, game oriented setting. Painting Nature with Acrylics classes start June 26 in Sweet Home, June 28 in Lebanon The class Painting Nature with Acrylics will be held at the LBCC Sweet Home Center and LBCC Lebanon Center this summer. Learn to use acrylics to paint your favorite natural scene from a photograph, including techniques for image and subject balance, perspective, and lighting effects. The exercise class Tai Chi will be offered through LBCC Community Education in Lebanon starting June 25. Learn the 18 Movement Form of Chen-style Tai Chi Chuan using low impact, slow and relaxed movements and an emphasis on deep breathing. Regular practice of Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, mobility and coordination. Sometimes called "moving meditation," Tai Chi promotes relaxation and reduces stress, and can improve everyday health and wellness along with increasing resistance to disease. The exercise class Dynamic Qi Gong will be offered through LBCC Community Education in Lebanon starting June 25. Dynamic Qi Gong uses energy flow to strengthen the entire body and calm the mind. "Qi" means life-force energy, which flows naturally throughout the universe; "Gong" means cultivation through steady practice. By cultivating this outer magnetic energy, learn to draw energy inward by using slow, specific movements through the Five Elements and focused breath. Participants experience a deep sense of peace in this easy-to-follow practice. No experience needed. Registration is now open for LBCC Driver Education courses. Classes start the week of June 25, with additional classes offered throughout the summer in Albany, Corvallis and Lebanon. Skills learned in this course can be life-saving. Course includes Oregon State mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a one-time parent/student orientation plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation. The cost for the course is $265 for ages 17 and under, $445 for ages 18 and over. Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety training will be held at Linn-Benton Community College’s Albany campus starting Thursday, June 28. Geared for farm workers ages 14 to 18, the course is developed and operated with the assistance of the OSU Extension Service in accordance with federal regulations. This three-day class session will meet Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 28, 29 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.  Preregistration is required and students must be at least 14 to register. A new class on using lighting to create healthier living and working spaces is being offered through LBCC Community Education in Lebanon.  Lighting and Simplicity for Happier Living covers how to create calm and relaxed spaces at home and at work, that allow us to self-center, regenerate, and aspire for better living, with easy to follow guidelines for applying simplicity for conscious living. BBQ Basics: The Art of Grilling and Smoking is a two-part class covering the basics of grilling and smoking proteins and vegetables. A safe driver refresher class for those 16 and older starts May 7 at Linn-Benton Community College. Course covers the new “Move Over Law,” which includes more than just emergency vehicles. Review recent changes in the law and learn skills and techniques to reduce crashes and collisions. Class meets Mondays from 6 to 7:20 p.m. for 3 weeks starting May 7, with a unique hands-on experience on Saturday May 19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. which provides an opportunity to challenge yourself in distracted driving situations.
