A community-engaged theater performance “Peace Be Upon You” will be held at the Russell Tripp Performance Center at Linn-Benton Community College May 18, 19 and 20.  Written by LBCC Theater Director Dan Stone through interviews and story circles with Middle-Eastern students and Willamette Valley community members practicing the Islamic faith, this powerful story follows the relationship between Sumaiya and Chelsea, college roommates who must put aside their differences as they navigate cultural and political challenges. The production will be staged in a black box format, with seating on the stage for a more intimate theater experience. Seating is limited. The original play “Tango Mike (Thanks Much),” based on real life stories of local veterans, will be performed at Linn-Benton Community College Nov. 20, 21, and 22. Written and directed by LBCC theater instructor Dan Stone, the play brings to life the poignant story of veterans and their families suffering from the effects of PTSD, based on the lives and stories of veterans from Linn and Benton counties. Performances are Nov. 20, 21, and 22 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Set in Albany, Oregon on Memorial Day, the script was created through interviews and story circles with local veterans who served in the Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam wars. LBCC Performing Arts presents Steve Martin’s adaptation of “The Underpants” May 9-11 and May 16-18. Theobald Maske has an unusual problem: his wife's underpants won't stay on. When her underpants fall to her ankles right in the middle of town, a public scandal ensues. Mortified, Theobald swears to keep his wife at home until she can find some less unruly undies. Amid this chaos, Theobald is trying to rent a room in their flat, but the prospective lodgers have some underlying surprises of their own. Steve Martin brings his comic genius and sophisticated literary style to Carl Sternheim's classic 1910 farce. The 38th annual children’s play “The Crane Wife” will be held at LBCC’s Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. A Japanese folk tale, The Crane Wife tells the poignant story of a man who rescues a crane, his wife who weaves beautiful silk clothing to raise them out of poverty, and the greed of a man that results in the loss of the love he holds most dear. The theater department at Linn-Benton Community College will present its 37th Annual Children’s Theater production of the shadow puppet play Wiley and the Hairy Man at the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Wiley and the Hairy Man is an American Southern folk tale that originated as an oral tradition amongst African slaves. The play, adapted by by Suzan Zeder and directed by LBCC Theater Director Dan stone, is about a young boy, Wiley, who must go out into the swamp to build a hound house for his dog, but is afraid that the Hairy Man is lurking nearby. The art faculty at Linn-Benton Community College are opening the 2011-12 fall term with their annual exhibit in the South Santiam Hall and Calapooia Center galleries on LBCC, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Featured in the show are several colorful oil paintings by Department Chair Dori Bartholomew Litzer; recent watercolor paintings, photographs and mixed-media by Analee Fuentes; large-scale oil paintings by Gary Westford; and wood-fired ceramics by Jay Widmer from his 2011 Alsea Anagama firing. Also on view are pastel concept drawings of “A Christmas Story” by performing arts instructor Dan Stone, and platinum photographic prints by gallery coordinator Rich Bergeman. The creative work of LBCC theater instructor Dan Stone and stage manager Leslie Hammond will be on view in the LBCC South Santiam Hall Gallery, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany, through March 4. Stone is presenting a selection of original hand-molded masks and hand-sewn costumes from past productions he has directed. The masks and costumes were made by Stone and his wife, Tina Marie, and are based on his long time interest and research into Commedia dell' Arte, an important theater form that began in the 14th century and that became very popular during the 17th and 18th centuries in Italy. Though it has a long tradition, it continues to be an influential art form in contemporary theater. Hammond is a master technical theater builder who has worked on numerous set constructions for productions across America. LBCC’s Performing Arts Department will present the musical “Blood Brothers” starting Friday, Nov.12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Set in Britain, Willy Russell's Blood Brothers tells the story of fraternal twins who are separated at birth. One brother is raised in a family of great privilege, and the other is raised in poverty. Even with their different socio-economic backgrounds, the two boys end up becoming best friends until a misunderstanding leads to a tragic ending.
