LBCC Juried Art Student Award Winners
Fifteen students received awards at Linn-Benton Community College’s annual Juried Art Student Exhibit at a reception held Wednesday, May 4, in the college’s North Santiam Hall Gallery. Johnny Beaver of Lebanon was awarded Best of Show for his acrylic painting “The Idealist” by juror Beverly Soasey, curator and director of the Jacobs Gallery in Eugene. Soasey also bestowed Juror’s Choice Awards to Jessica Purkerson of Lebanon for her acrylic painting “Jellyfish” and to Spike Keenan of Philomath for her ink drawing “Stereotypes and Labels.” Keenan’s drawing also received the President’s Purchase Award, while Purkerson also received a second award—the Carol Schaafsma Award of Merit in Drawing, for her work in ink titled “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” Other award winners were: •Sarah Maddox of Corvallis—the Carol Schaafsma Award in Photography, as well as the Oregon Camera Award and the PhotoArts Guild Award. •Janey Bevill of Albany—the Carol Schaafsma Award in Painting. • Rinee Merritt of Alba...
