Spanish Private Applicator and Pesticides Laws & Safety Classes

Do you have an employee who has studied hard but failed the Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license exam? Do you have an employee who needs in-depth training in pesticide application and safety, or extra coaching in math and calibration skills needed for accurate applications? 

 The Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College is offering courses designed to prepare your senior agriculture workers to take the State of Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator exam. Spanish Private Applicator will be held Thursday, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Friday, Feb.15 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the LBCC Calapooia Center, room CC-103, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Cost for this non-credit class is $99.

 Pesticides Laws and Safety for public and commercial applications will be held Feb. 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. to noon both days in the LBCC Calapooia Center, room CC-213. Cost for this non-credit class is $99.

LBCC Polysomnographic Technology Free Information Sessions

Free information sessions for those interested in becoming a Polysomnographic Technologist, or sleep technician, will be held at Linn-Benton Community College. The information sessions will be held on Feb. 13, 10 a.m.-Noon, room CC-210; and Feb. 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., room CC-203. Both sessions will be held in the LBCC Calapooia Center building, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Attendance at one of the information sessions is mandatory before applying for the program. Polysomnographic Technologists assist physicians with patients who have sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea. The program combines online and in-class instruction with a clinical practicum where students learn how to administer, score and interpret a variety of sleep disorders and their treatments. LMT Continuing Education Workshop

Linn-Benton Community College will hold a continuing education workshop for License Massage Therapists on “The Spine” March 16 and 17.

 Techniques covered in this workshop include how to work with shoulder and pelvic asymmetries, how to identify and address spinal rotations, bends and shifts, and specific psoas and abdominal release techniques.

LBCC Offers Forklift Safety Training

Forklift Safety Training will be offered through LBCC Business and Employer Services Saturday, Feb. 23, from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the LBCC Albany Campus, Industrial C-103, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. This eight-hour course will provide four hours of classroom training and four hours of practice on the forklift. Training includes forklift safety, handling and moving loads, principles of lifting, stacking and un-stacking loads and driving with a load. Upon completion of eight hours of training and meeting the requirements, student will receive an award of completion to take to their current or future employer. Gallery Reception for Four Northwest Artists

John Van Dreal "Again #2" A public reception and gallery hosting four Willamette Valley artists whose work is on display in the North Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from noon to 1 p.m. in the NSH second floor atrium, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.  Eugene sketchbook artist Ken O’Connell and Salem painter John Van Dreal share the NSH gallery walls with multi-media artist Shelley Jordon and photographer Julia Bradshaw, who are both faculty at Oregon State University in Corvallis. In addition, O’Connell will lead a workshop at 2 p.m. Wednesday on the use of sketchbooks in the art and design process in the Fireside Room, second floor of the Calapooia Center building. The artists will be exhibiting on both floors of the NSH Gallery through March 1. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.

Lebanon Center Photoshop Elements II



Learn how to edit and show your digital photographs in Photoshop Elements II class offered at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way.

 Go beyond the basics to perfect your photos. Learn about layers, touch-up, restoring, special effects, slide shows and more. Class will meet at the Lebanon Center on Thursdays from 6 to 8:50 p.m. beginning Feb. 14. Cost for this five-week class is $54 plus a $3 Fee.

LBCC Hosts College Transfer Day

Oregon College Transfer Day Information Fair will be held at Linn-Benton Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd S.W., Albany. This free event is geared toward students interested in transferring to four-year colleges. Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers - GED/Adult Basic Education



General Education (GED) and Adult Basic Education classes will be held at LBCC's Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers in February. Improve your skills in reading, writing or math, or prepare for your GED test. Free orientations will be held Feb. 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., or 6 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Orientations at the LBCC Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St., will be held Feb. 4 and 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m., or Feb. 4 and 6 from 6 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. It is mandatory to attend both days of the orientation before registering for classes.

There is a $30 enrollment fee due at registration. Classes will be held at the Lebanon Center and the Sweet Home Center.

Lebanon Center - College Success Class

LBCC is offering a "College Success" class that focuses on the qualities, traits and behaviors that create success in college and in life. This two-day class is open to anyone who wants to strengthen behaviors for personal success. Class will meet Friday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 8:50 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost for this one-credit class is $96. The class Computers-2nd Step will be held at the LBCC Lebanon and the Sweet Home Centers. Class is designed for students who already know basic computer navigation, and who would like to move on to the next level. This four-week class will be held at the LBCC Lebanon Center on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:50 p.m. starting Feb. 6, and at the LBCC Sweet Home Center on Thursdays from 6 to 8:50 p.m. starting Feb. 14. Cost is $45 plus a $3 fee.

Learning to thrive in uncertain times is the focus of the "Boomers in Transition" class at the LBCC Lebanon Center. This class will lead students through a process of self-discovery to help identify successful coping skills, develop external and internal support systems and develop plans to implement change. This one-week class will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12 and Thursday, Feb. 14 from 6 to 8:20 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost for this class is $29 plus a $2 Fee. LBCC Holds College Night Open House

Thinking about attending college or looking to improve your job skills? LBCC 36th Annual Family Fun Day

The 36th annual Family Fun Day at Linn-Benton Community College will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the LBCC Activities Center gym, Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd., Albany.  Children ages one to six will enjoy activities such as play dough, an obstacle course, crafts, bounce house, face painting, puppet show, putt putt golf and much more. There will also be a used toy and book sale.  Everyone is invited to attend this inexpensive, fun-filled event. Activity tickets are .25 cents each. LBCC Lebanon Center AARP Driver Safety Program



AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered through the LBCC Lebanon Center February 4 and 5. The AARP program is designed to help develop and reinforce safe driving skills and techniques. Satisfactory completion of this class may qualify you for reduced auto insurance premiums (check with your insurance carrier). This one-week class will meet Monday, Feb. 4 and Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 8:30 to 11:20 a.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost for the class is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Linn-Benton Opera Guild Previews Tosca

The Linn-Benton Opera Guild will preview the opera Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7:45 p.m. at 303 Benton Hall, Oregon State University campus, Corvallis. OSU music professor Angela Carlson will tell the story of the opera and play recorded excerpts from the score. Admission is free to Linn-Benton Opera Guild members, students of Linn-Benton Community College and OSU. Cost for the general public is $5. Sweet Home Center Offers Healthy Gluten Free Living Class



The class Healthy Gluten Free Living will be held at Linn-Benton Community College’s Sweet Home Center beginning Jan. 16. Designed for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, learn the basics of gluten related disorders, meal planning, shopping, cooking, cooking, and hidden gluten and cross contamination. Class is taught by a registered nursed who specializes in gluten free lifestyles.

Centers Offer Wilderness Survival & Safety

Learn how to be safe in the wilderness in the class Wilderness Survival and Safety offered at LBCC's Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers. This one-day class will introduce you to skills that may save your life in an outdoor emergency. Topics covered include mental and physical preparation, starting a fire, creating a shelter, signaling and items you should always carry in the outdoors. LBCC President Appointed to Quality Education Commission

Dr. Greg Hamann Greg Hamann , president of Linn-Benton Community College, has been appointed to serve a four-year term on the state Quality Education Commission . Hamann’s appointment by Governor John Kitzhaber makes him the first person on the commission who works outside of the K-12 education system. Created in 2001 with a primary focus on K-12, the non-partisan commission is expanding its work to include pre-kindergarten through public higher education. “This appointment is a recognition not just of my efforts and contributions, but of those of the entire LBCC community,” said Hamann. The commission’s task is to refine and validate the state’s Quality Education Model (QEM), which was developed in 1999 to establish research-based connections between resources devoted to schools and levels of student achievement, and to guide efforts to adequately fund Oregon schools.  The work of the commission includes evaluating educational best practices and determining the level of funding n

South Santiam Hall Gallery Features Paintings by Robert Story

Paintings by Portland artist and LBCC graduate Robert Story are on exhibit in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, in Albany through Feb. 1. A reception and gallery talk will be held on Tuesday Jan. 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the gallery. Story describes his exhibit, titled “Ruminations In the Outside,” as “a playground for my thoughts and emotions, as well as a catharsis.”  He said he paints in order to express his thoughts aesthetically. A 2004 graduate of LBCC, Story works for Bullseye Glass Co. in Portland as a furnace builder. LBCC's South Santiam Hall Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

LBCC Free Phlebotomy Information Sessions

Several free Phlebotomy Program information sessions will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College for those interested in training to become a phlebotomist. January session times and dates are Thursday, Jan. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional sessions will be held Feb. 19, 10 a.m.-Noon, and March 4, 1-3 p.m. All sessions will be held at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. No preregistration is required to attend. Attendance at one of the information sessions is mandatory to register for the program. The 16-week Phlebotomy Program training starts July 29 and runs through Nov. 15 at the Lebanon Community Hospital Health Careers Training Center and the LBCC Lebanon Center. Skill areas covered in the training include medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, customer service, medical law and ethics, phlebotomy and Cost for the program is $4,500.
