LBCC Fall Choral Concert “Home is Where Hope Abides”

Raymund Ocampo Linn-Benton Community College’s first choral concert conducted by new choral director Raymund Ocampo will be performed Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. "Home is Where Hope Abides" features LBCC's award-winning Concert Choir, Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir, and the vocal a cappella groups Blue Light Special and The Sirens. Penny Bazanele will accompany on piano. Choral works to be performed include: “My Lord has Come” by British composer Will Todd; “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” arranged by the late Steve Zegree; “We Three Kings” arranged by Darmon Meader; “Unclouded Day” by Shawn Kirchner; “Homeward Bound” arranged by Jay Althouse; “A La Nanita Nana” arranged by Ed Henderson; and “Festival Sanctus” by John Leavitt. LBCC Choirs Advance in International Rankings

Linn-Benton Community College’s Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir has achieved a ranking of 137 of the top 1,000 choirs worldwide. Interkultur, sponsors of the World Choir Games and official keepers of the World Choir Rankings, officially updated the rankings based on more than 16 years of competitions and global rankings with many different factors. A successful competition in the 8th World Choir Games this past summer landed LBCC’s Chamber Choir a world champion title. The updated ranking moved the choir up over 400 places, and also placed the choir at 21 of the top 50 chamber choirs in the world. In addition, LBCC’s Concert Choir is now ranked in the top 1,000 choirs worldwide, at 963, a first for the concert choir to be officially ranked globally.

Chamber Choir Advances to American Prize Finalist List

After a first place showing at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, the Linn-Benton Community College Chamber Choir learned it has advanced to the finalist round of the American Prize in Choral Performance, the fifth year in a row it has done so. LBCC’s choir is the only community college choir on the American Prize finalist list, which includes 10 choral groups from around the country. LBCCs Concert Choir also advanced to the semi-finalist round in the competition for a third year. The Chamber Choir, under the direction of James Reddan, will compete for the American Prize against university choirs from California, Utah, North and South Dakota, Georgia, New Jersey, Texas Virginia, Illinois and Ohio. Winners will be announced in September.

LBCC Choirs to attend World Choir Games

Two Linn-Benton Community College choir ensembles have been selected to compete in the eighth-annual World Choir Games held this coming July in Riga, Latvia. Students in LBCC’s Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, ranked amongst the top choirs in the world, will compete in three categories including Mixed Chamber Singers (a cappella), Musica Sacra A cappella, and Musica Contemporanea, with approximately 300 choirs from six continents and more than 60 countries competing. “This is truly a huge honor and a testament to the hard work of our absolutely wonderful choral students here at LBCC,” said LBCC Choral Activities Director James Reddan, “We feel so lucky to have this opportunity to represent our country at such an important and prestigious event with all of the world’s eyes on us.” Leading up to the competition, LBCC’s choirs will give invitational performances in Helsinki, Finland at the Senaatintori (Senate Church) in Senate Square and the St. Nicholas ...

LBCC Chamber Choir Ranked Among Top Choirs Worldwide

The Linn-Benton Community College Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir was recently ranked 607 out of the top 1,000 choirs worldwide by Interkultur World Rankings. The choir received 800 out of a possible 1,170 points in the ranking system. The choir also ranked in the top 200 for Mixed Choirs from throughout the world. "It is absolutely an honor for the students and the music program,” said James Reddan, LBCC music faculty and choral director. “It is truly a testament to all of the hard work of the students and all that they have worked for!" Founded in 1988 in Germany, Interkultur hosts international choral competitions. High-ranking international adjudicators evaluate the choirs according to the Musica Mundi evaluation system.  Choirs are ranked based on categories such as performance and reputation throughout the world, with only the top 1,000 choirs from across the globe being recognized.
