LBCC Choirs to attend World Choir Games

Two Linn-Benton Community College choir ensembles have been selected to compete in the eighth-annual World Choir Games held this coming July in Riga, Latvia.

Students in LBCC’s Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, ranked amongst the top choirs in the world, will compete in three categories including Mixed Chamber Singers (a cappella), Musica Sacra A cappella, and Musica Contemporanea, with approximately 300 choirs from six continents and more than 60 countries competing.

“This is truly a huge honor and a testament to the hard work of our absolutely wonderful choral students here at LBCC,” said LBCC Choral Activities Director James Reddan, “We feel so lucky to have this opportunity to represent our country at such an important and prestigious event with all of the world’s eyes on us.”

Leading up to the competition, LBCC’s choirs will give invitational performances in Helsinki, Finland at the Senaatintori (Senate Church) in Senate Square and the St. Nicholas Church in Tallinn, Estonia.

In addition, the choirs will participate in a friendship concert in downtown Riga, and will participate in workshops lead by the world famous “King Singers” and composer Morten Lauridsen.

Held every two years on a different continent, the World Choir Games are based on Olympic ideals, which aim to “peacefully unify singing people and nations connected by song in fair competition.”

LBCC’s choirs are currently working to raise funds to help pay for students to take trip. If you would like to make a donation in support of the choirs, please contact James Reddan at 541- 917-4550 or by email at reddanj@linnbenton.edu.
