Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Community College Association will honor two Linn-Benton Community College students as part of the OCCA All Oregon Academic Team.

Ilex Karstens, a pre-dental hygiene major, and Rebekah Pennington, a nursing major, both Albany residents, will be honored at a luncheon with the Governor and the other Oregon community college student winners at the state capitol April 30.

Karstens is a four-point honor roll student who serves as an executive assistant for LBCC Student Government and is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll Society.

Pennington, also an honor roll student, serves as Phi Theta Kappa - LBCC chapter president, and serves as a member of the LBCC Student Leadership Council Judiciary Board and a CASA volunteer.

Both students will receive a plaque from the OCCA and a $1,000 scholarship from the university they plan to attend for their bachelor’s degree.

The Oregon Community College Association, in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa, yearly recognizes outstanding students from Oregon’s 17 community colleges through the All-Oregon Academic Team awards.  Students selected become eligible for more than $350,000 in Coca-Cola Foundation and USA Today scholarships.
