LBCC to offer more classes in collaboration with Mennonite Village
In an effort to bring area residents additional services, Linn-Benton Community College and the Mennonite Village are working together to offer more classes and workshops at the Mennonite Village’s Lakeside Center.
"We've had excellent participation in classes we've held at Mennonite Village and facility coordinators have invited us to offer more," shared Chris Nystrom, director of LBCC Community Education. "We have the ability to easily expand to various offsite facilities throughout Linn and Benton counties where groups may want classes. It makes it easier for customers of LBCC's community education programs to take classes when they can be conveniently offered at a local facility."
The following classes will meet at the Mennonite Village Lakeside Center.
Brain Boosters: Recent discoveries in brain science have shown that at any age, our brains improve when stimulated and exercised. Learn techniques to energize and enhance your memory and cognitive functioning through exercises in concentration, focus, visualization, and association. Practice using senses you don't ordinarily use in order to break up your routine and increase your awareness. Tips on brain-enhancing nutrition and physical exercise are included. Class meets Monday, September 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. Cost is $29.
Write Your Life Story: Your own life stories and those of your family members are treasures that need to be preserved as carefully as photos. Recall and recount family history in your own narrative style with enhancement of detail, description and dialogue. Tips on publishing help you to submit articles or stories to magazines as fact or fiction. Class meets Mondays for four-weeks from 1:30 to 3:20 p.m. starting October 17. Cost is $69.
Pet Portrait Painting: Unleash your inner artist while painting your favorite subject - your pet! Paint your pup, color your cat or choose any furry friend. Your instructor will guide you through this creative, fun, enjoyable experience. Bring a photo that is clear, up-close, with a well-lit background, easy to see lines and definition. No experience necessary. Register five days before class starts and email a clear photo of your pet to Albany@linnbenton.edu or print your own 8.5 x 11" copy and bring to class. Class meets on Monday, November 14 from 1 to 3:50 p.m. Cost is $39.
Better Bones and Balance: Reap the benefits of OSU Bone Research Lab studies. This exercise program has been shown to slow the rate of bone loss in adults of all ages. Improve your balance and coordination, reduce your risk for falls, and see an increase in muscle tone and overall body fitness. This 11-week class meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:15 to 10:05 a.m. starting September 26. Cost is $99.
Oregon History: Take a step back in time and discover Oregon's rich history from the pioneer period, including the settlement of Northwest Indians, fur traders, mountain men, pioneers, all ethnic groups that came to Oregon, the Lewis and Clark expedition, the history of Oregon's towns and cities, and the Gold Rush era. This eight-week class meets Mondays from 9 to 10:50 a.m. starting September 26. Cost is $69.
