Santiam Kalapuya Indians History Class
Explore the life-ways of the Santiam Kalapuya Indians prior to Caucasian settlement in this history class held Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8.
The first day of class will be at the LBCC Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St, from 1 to 2:50 p.m. and cover pre-history of the people of Western Oregon, including archaeological evidence, early settler accounts and Kalapuya-era replica artifacts.
The second day will be a fieldtrip to Cascadia Cave from 10 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. The cave is an important site to Santiam Kalapuyans, and we will examine traditional cultural resource areas and discuss restoration opportunities.
Students must supply their own transportation to Cascadia State Park. Bring lunch, water, camera and field clothing appropriate for rain and mud.
