LBCC Earth Day Celebration coming April 21

LBCC will hold an Earth Day Celebration Thursday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the college courtyard, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. 

Activities include flowerpot planting with flowers donated by Peoria Gardens, recycling station for your old shoes, tours of the organic farm, mushroom inoculation demonstration, recycled metal art sale, Earth Day t-shirt sale and more!

Wear your favorite hippie garb to the “Dress Like a Hippie” contest. Sign-ups start at 11:30 a.m., contest starts at 12:15 p.m. on the courtyard stage. Have lunch at the “Earth Day CafĂ©” for just $5, $4 for students.

Learn about alternative energy, therapeutic horticulture, natural resource conservation, native plants, recycling, worm composting, plastics in our oceans, LBCC green campus programs, international efforts, green careers and programs and more.

Dr. Christo Buizert with OSU College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences will give a presentation on ice core science titled “An ice core perspective on Climate Change, the last Ice Age, and Shakespeare” from 12 to 12:50 p.m. in Madrone Hall, room MH-113.

Community tables include Albany Options School, First United Methodist Church Green Team and First Step Programs, Ocean Blue Project, Pacific Power Blue Sky Energy Program, Republic Services Recycling, USDA Agriculture Research Services Therapeutic Horticulture and Clonal Germplasm Repository, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Willamette Gardens Native Plant Society.
