Democracy Club Holds Liberty Tree Faire event

The LBCC Democracy Club will hold its annual “Liberty Tree Faire” Tuesday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in college courtyard, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

Held on Oregon’s primary election day, the fair includes information on the issues affecting students today and provides an opportunity to get involved with the primary election process.

Attending the event will be Albany Mayor Sharon Konopa, Linn County Democrats and Republicans, Libertarians of Oregon, Veterans for Peace and Corvallis Move to Amend.
Political parties, interest groups, and public service groups are invited to set up a table in the LBCC Courtyard and share their ideas and program with students.

Student participation includes a public speaking contest from Noon to 1 p.m., where students will speak on the famous Tomas Paine quote “We have it in our power to being the world again.” Contestants will be given five minutes to present their best argument.

This fourth-annual fair is inspired by the Liberty Tree in Boston, the meeting place of patriots during the American Revolution, where they met to discuss the need for independence.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact LBCC Democracy Club faculty advisor Dr. Robert Harrison at 541-917-4571.
