New Summer Teen Class Series

This summer, a variety of new, fun classes for teens ages 14-18 will be held through Linn-Benton Community College’s Community Education.

Students can choose from recreation, adventure, cooking, arts, crafts, and more including Geocaching with GPS, Video Storytelling, “Hey, Cool Shirt” t-shirt design, Mountain Bike Mojo, Backyard Beekeeping, and Teen Ranch horse camp. Class times are designed for easy scheduling around vacations and sports.

Summer Teen Series of classes:

ART & ETSY is a two-part workshop held in Corvallis to help your teen get creative, and then get down to business. Bring your own product to polish up, or discover your inner artist and bring to life a new creation. Immerse yourself in product design and then create a catchy shop name and an inviting online presence.   Mondays & Wednesdays from 2-3:50 p.m. starting July 27 (2 weeks). Cost: $79.

BACKYARD BEEKEEPING will offer an opportunity to make a bee hotel and learn about the importance of bees. Bee hotels, also called nests or houses, are a great way to attract pollinators to your family’s flower or vegetable garden. Each class is one evening and will be offered June 23 in Sweet Home, June 30 in Lebanon, July 14 in Albany, and July 28 in Corvallis, from 5-7:50 p.m.  Cost: $59.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING is the best way to translate your words and images into a powerful visual story. Combine narration, music, images, graphic design, photo manipulation and video editing to make your story memorable. Monday, Wednesday & Friday the week of August 17 from 9-11:50 a.m. in Corvallis. Cost: $89.

GEOCACHING WITH GPS will help you build potentially life-saving navigation skills using a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) unit while also enjoying one of the fastest-growing outdoor activities - Geocaching! There are thousands of geocaches in Linn-Benton County, so class members can hunt while using valuable positioning and navigation technology in the great outdoors. Bring handheld GPS receiver. One day, Saturday, August 1, 9 a.m.-2:50 p.m. LBCC Albany Campus. Cost: $59.

HEY, COOL SHIRT allows you to create a one-of-a-kind t-shirt with your own unique logo. Dive into the secrets of logo design by studying the work of companies like APPLE and Nike.  Then, create your own logo using Adobe Illustrator software and transfer to Mark-Ease before screen printing to your t-shirt. This class is hands-on! Please bring a t-shirt for printing. Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9-11:50 a.m. starting July 7, 2 weeks.  At Santiam Christian School, Adair Village. Cost: $129.

MOSAIC MASHUP will enable you to create a mosaic masterpiece from recycled materials that grab your heart. Incorporating paper, glass tiles, ceramic tiles, and a wide selection of other materials, you will cultivate a mosaic treasure in a supportive group atmosphere. Mondays & Wednesdays from 2-3:50 p.m. starting June 22, 2 weeks. Held in Corvallis. Cost: $79.

MOUNTAIN BIKE MOJO is a one-day clinic that will provide the basic skills and techniques for participants to increase their enjoyment in the fast growing sport of mountain biking. The incredible new Alsea Falls "flow trail" is the training ground for this course. Learn body positioning and balance, switchbacks and cornering, braking and maneuvering obstacles, wheel lifts, pumping, safety, trails stewardship and more! Meet at Alsea Falls Trailhead south of Corvallis on Saturday, July 11 from 10-4 p.m. Cost: $79. Call for bike rental in advance if needed (additional fee).

Don’t order in, create your own in PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA! Begin by mastering the basic Margherita pizza. Move on to the big leagues by creating your own unique pizza with your choice of sauce, dough, and a large variety of toppings. Pizza, Pizza, Pizza will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 1-3:50 p.m., at Santiam Christian School, Adair Village. Cost: $39.
TEEN RANCH: HORSE CAMP offers the adventure of horse handling and riding. Working with gentle and well-trained horses, you will receive hands-on instruction in grooming, tacking up, and basic horse care. Once you have mounted your horse, master the basics of position, control and safety. For beginning riders ages 14-18 with little horse experience. Students should wear boots or closed shoes with a heel. Held the week of August 3 at Invale Farms, Monday-Friday 9:30-11:50 a.m. Cost: $179.

Let the competition begin in THE GREAT COOKIE BAKE-OFF! Create your own sweet sensation from a wide array of ingredients. Supplies and useful cooking tips will be provided and teams will compete for a prize. On your mark, get set, GO! The Great Cookie Bake-off will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 1-3:50 p.m. at Santiam Christian School, Adair Village. Cost: $39.

THE OPEN MINDED OMLETTE. As a skilled omelet cook, you will soon create dozens of omelets variations to please the family. Learn the secrets of the basic omelet and then build it up with a mix of ingredients of your choice. Finish off the dish with a fried potato side. Tuesday, July 28, 1-3:50 p.m. at Santiam Christian School, Adair Village. Cost: $39.

ON THE PRAIRIE: SEWING BY HAND will take you through DIY quick fixes and minor alterations. Bring clothing and other fabric items that need mending. Supplies included in fee. Wednesday, July 15 from 1-3:50 p.m. in Corvallis. Cost: $39.

In SEWING THE FUTURE you can complete a project with or without a commercial pattern. Apply various methods of sewing, mending and altering clothing and other items. A hands-on class, best for those with little or no sewing experience. If you wish to borrow a sewing machine, please make arrangements with the instructor ahead of time. Supplies included in fee. The week of July 20, Monday-Friday from 10-11:50 p.m. in Corvallis. Cost: $99.

Radio DJ let’s you experience a radio studio first hand. Learn some production skills, and what it takes to create the weekly music program 'Sunday Showtunes,’ where you will be part of an episode and be heard 'on air' with KSHO 920 AM! Saturday, June 20 from 2:30-5:20 p.m. Held at KGAL in Lebanon. Cost: $29.

UNDER THE HOOD will help you avoid getting caught in a lurch. This hands-on class car care class will provide an overview of important maintenance procedures, safety precautions, $$ savings, diagnostics and more.  Wednesday, June 24, 9-11:50 a.m. Cost: $49.
