The professional development class Influencing Negative Attitudes will be held Tuesday, July 17 from 8 a.m. to Noon in the Linn-Benton Community College Fireside room, CC-211. This workshop offers techniques for working with people who have a negative attitude. Even though we cannot control the actions and attitudes of another person, we can skillfully influence them in such a way that gives them more choices in their actions.           “Transitions,” an exhibit by four Linn-Benton Community College art students and graduates, is on display in the college’s North Santiam Hall Galleries through Sept. 10.             The artists are Johnny Beaver of Lebanon, Kevin Lyon of Albany, Miriam Morrissette of Corvallis and Jessie Barnhouse of Alsea.   All four are also members of the Temporary Artists Guild in Corvallis.             The more than 40 paintings on display are done in oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas and paper. LBCC will hold a Summer Volleyball Clinic August 7, 8 and 9 for girls and boys who are entering grades six through nine. The clinic will provide three days of three-hour sessions that includes instruction on the all aspects of the game including serving, passing, hitting, setting, blocking and defense. The clinic will be held at the LBCC Activities Center gym, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Grades six and seven will meet from 9 a.m. to Noon, and grades eight and nine will meet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Cost for the clinic is $60 if registered before July 15, and $75 after. The professional development class Improving PerformanceWith Practical On-the-Job Training Skills will be held Tuesday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to Noon at Linn-Benton Community College in the Fireside room, CC-211, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. It has been estimated that more than 80 percent of critical competencies of a job are learned on-the-job. Too often employees are being asked to train their colleagues on new technologies, products or skills without having the tools needed to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate training. Don’t leave this important training to chance.   When done well, OJT can be very effective for the learner and rewarding for the trainer. Make Your Own Photobooks will be offered through LBCC Albany Community Education beginning June 27. Learn how to take your photos beyond your home computer and publish to a photobook, including how to upload photos, design, edit and publish. This five week, non-credit class will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. beginning June 27 in LBCC’s McKenzie Hall, room MKH-209, LBCC, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany. The class Wilderness Survival will be offered through LBCC Albany Community Education on Saturday, June 30. Learn how to be fully prepared in the unpredictable outdoors. The class is designed for the backpacker, hiker, hunter, ATV’er or back country traveler.   Review the basics of equipment, clothing selection and the skills needed to prepare for travel and emergency situations, and learn the basic planning elements to consider in advance of your journey outdoors. William Summers Loyal Burns Loyal Burns and William Summers were honored with Linn-Benton Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award at its Commencement held June 14. Burns, a Lebanon resident, is director of Information Technology at Veterinary Service Inc. (VSI), an animal health distribution company in Albany. He earned an associate degree in Agricultural Business Management at LBCC in 1991, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University in the same subject. Summers, an Albany resident, is the Workforce Analyst for the Oregon Employment Department in Albany. He earned an associate degree from LBCC in 1993, and continued on to OSU where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics.
