Parenting Ed receives $50k OPEC renewal grant

Linn-Benton Community College’s Parenting Education Department recently received a renewal grant of $50,000 from the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative for its Parenting Success Network. The grant covers the 2017-18 school year, and is part of a multi-year initiative supporting expansion of high-quality parenting education programs and a stronger, more coordinated parenting education system statewide. Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative is comprised of the Oregon Community Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust, The Ford Family Foundation, The Collins Foundation and Oregon State University. LBCC was in the first group of six programs to participate in the OPEC initiative, which has grown to 15 programs since 2010. This will be the eighth year LBCC has participated, bringing the total funds awarded to $540,000. Real Estate Broker Pre-License Exam Course starts June 27

A Real Estate Broker Pre-License Exam course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College starting June 27, 2017. Designed to prepare you for the Oregon Real Estate Broker License Exam, this 150-hour course is the fastest way to qualify to take the state exam. This 10-week course will meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning June 27 through Sept. 5 at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Calapooia Center room CC-213. The course content will be mostly Internet based. Students are expected to have online capability, to self-study and attend all class sessions. A mandatory study session will be held on Saturday, the last week of the class. Cost for this non-credit course is $600. Solar Eclipse Festival includes camping, star party August 20-21

A solar eclipse festival and campout will be held at Linn-Benton Community College August 20-21 with star gazing and eclipse activities Sunday, and breakfast and eclipse viewing on Monday. Tent campsites are open to LBCC students and guests until Friday, June 16 at a reduced rate of $40 per site for up to four people and includes breakfast and viewing glasses. There is a $10 fee for each additional camper up to three more per site. Starting June 17, tent camping sites will be available to the public at $100 per site for up to four, and includes breakfast and viewing glasses. There is a $25 fee for each additional camper up to three more per site. Festival begins Sunday evening, Aug. 20 with science activities, entertainment and a star party. Evening activities are free for campers, $5 for non-campers, and free for children under 18. Tractor & Farm Machinery Safety Class starts June 23

Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety training will be held at Linn-Benton Community College starting June 23. Geared for farm workers ages 14 to 18, the course is developed and operated with the assistance of the OSU Extension Service in accordance with federal regulations. This three-day class session meets Friday, Saturday and Monday, June 23, 24 and 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. in the Forum building, room F-113, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Cost is $99. Preregistration is required and students must be at least 14 to register. Students and parents must sign a Liability Waiver/Indemnification form at the time of registration. Pesticides Laws & Safety in Spanish course, June 8, 9

A Pesticide Laws and Safety class in Spanish will be held through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College June 8 and 9. Designed to prepare senior agriculture workers to take the State of Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator exam, classes provide in-depth training, including extra coaching in math and calibration skills. Course may be used for recertification credits. Pesticide Laws and Safety in Spanish meets June 8 and 9, beginning at 8 a.m. both days, at LBCC’s Calapooia Center, room CC-213. Cost is $119. LBCC offers ODA exams at an additional cost of $58 each. Small Business Workshop: Website Basics

An introductory website workshop for entrepreneurs and small business owners will be held through the Small Business Development Center  at Linn-Benton Community College June 5. Website Basics is a three-hour introductory workshop on website development, and covers overview of domain names, writing for the web, images and photo basics, and much more. Workshop meets Monday, June 5 from 6 to 8:50 p.m. at the LBCC Luckiamute Center, room 115, 6500 SW Pacific Blvd., Albany. Cost is $79. Spring Choir Concert “Horizons” June 8, 7:30 p.m.

The Linn-Benton Community College award-winning choirs will perform their spring concert “Horizons” Thursday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. LBCC Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will perform a variety of works including Gabriel’s Oboe from the movie “The Mission,” How Can I Keep from Singing, Earth Song, and Cell’s Planets. Vocal a cappella ensembles Blue Light Special and The Sirens will perform a wide variety of popular favorites including Greedy, Water, 24K Magic, and Death of a Bachelor.
