A variety of computer and photography classes will be offered to the community through Linn-Benton Community College Community Education starting the week of April 13 at the LBCC Benton Center, 757 NW Polk Ave, Corvallis.
Classes include: Personal Computer Essentials, Information Technology Training (online), Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, Android Phones & Tablets, Windows 8, Mac Essentials, Intro to Social Media, Photoshop Elements III, Your Digital SLR Camera, and Travel Photography.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING is a series of online IT training classes aimed at launching a potentially lucrative, high demand career as a certified computer technician, network technician, or systems/network security analyst. Classes can be started and completed at any time throughout the term.
PERSONAL COMPUTER ESSENTIALS is perfect class for those who have never touched a computer before and want hands-on, step-by-step instruction. Designed to go at an easy pace. Includes identifying the various parts of the computer, how to turn it on and off and use the mouse and keyboard. Introduces working with Windows 7, and a brief intro to email and the Internet. Six-week class meets Wednesdays starting April 15 from 4:30 to 6:20 p.m. at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $69.
APPLE IPAD will help you get the most from your iPad. Learn the essential elements of the operating system including calendar, contacts, mail, Safari, photos and music. Learn tips and shortcuts for more efficient use of the iPad's virtual keyboard, how to use your iPad as a digital photo frame, buying and reading electronic books, adding and removing apps, printing and sharing data and the importance of synchronizing and backing up your data to your computer and/or iCloud account. APPLE IPHONE will help you get to know your iPhone's basic functions and useful features. Explore the touchscreen interface, type with the intelligent keyboard, setup your email account, and confidently manage your preferences in the Settings menu. Take advantage of standard iPhone Apps (camera, maps, notes, and music) and download new apps from the App Store. Suitable for iPhone beginners, using any generation of iPhone device. Four-week class meets Thursdays from 4 to 5:50 p.m. starting April 23 at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $59.
ANDROID PHONES and TABLETS will help you learn about the device's core functions and settings. Find fun apps using the Google Play store, sync your device with your Google account, and explore how to connect your home computer to upload and share pictures and videos. Four-week class meets Wednesdays begins on April 15 from 2:30 to 4:20 p.m. at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $59.
MAC ESSENTIALS helps new Mac users who want to understand the Mac OS X operating system's essential applications and for current users who wish to further develop their skills. Topics covered include the basic layout of OS X, tips and shortcuts for navigating the system, applications like TextEdit, Calendar, Mail, Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, as well as guides for printing and sharing data. Class meets Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. starting April 15 at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $89.
INTRO TO SOCIAL MEDIA provides an overview of how to interact with friends, family, and business contacts for both personal or professional use. Gain an overview of popular tools, starting with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Learn how to leverage your time, personalize privacy settings and even share content beyond your network. Computers will be provided to enable you to try new skills as you go. Basic computer skills required.

PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS III builds on the basics. The fun continues as you delve deeper into the many features of Adobe Photoshop Elements. See how editing pictures in the RAW format can improve your photos and get hands-on experience using the histogram and levels. Explore advanced techniques with layers, removing noise, sharpening, obtaining matching color prints, and creating beautiful panoramic photos, photo montages, and fancy watermarks to identify your photos. Class meets Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. starting April 14 at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $89.
TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY allows you to awaken your wanderlust and create exciting images of your travel and adventures whether close to home or far abroad. Understand how to use photography while traveling and on vacation to capture memories, tell a story, and express a sense of place. Explore the basics of exposure, lighting, and composition. Identify what equipment is practical for travel and how to pack and carry. Class meets Thursday, May 14 from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m.; Saturday, May 16 from 9 to 10:50 a.m.; and Thursday, May 21 from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $59.
