LBCC Lebanon Center - Senior Center Classes

Are you looking to start a new exercise program or continue with an old favorite? Linn-Benton Community College offers a variety of exercise classes that are held at the Lebanon Senior Center each term. Classes include Better Bones and Balance, Easy Cardio Fitness, T'ai Chi, Total Body Conditioning, Yoga, Zumba and Zumba Toning.  Although these classes have started, you can still register. LBCC Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers Art Classes

Looking for some artistic self-expression opportunities? Check out the variety of art classes offered at LBCC this fall. Watercolor Foundations will be offered at the LBCC Lebanon Center, and at the Brownsville Art Association Studio. The Lebanon Center class will meet on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 26 from 5:30-7:50 p.m. The class in Brownsville will meet on Thursdays beginning Sept. 27 from 5:30 to 7:50 p.m. Cost is $69 plus a $3 fee. A Calligraphy class will be offered at the LBCC Sweet Home Center. This ten-week class meets on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 25 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $76.50 plus a $5 fee. A Clay-Open Studio class will be offered at the Sweet Home Center as well. This ten-week class meets on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 25 from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Cost is $84 plus a $25 Fee. LBCC Quilters Workshop and Knitting/Crocheting Workshop

Improve your knitting and crocheting techniques in the Knitting/Crocheting Workshop offered at the LBCC Lebanon Center this term. This 10-week class meets on Tuesdays from 9 to 10:50 a.m. beginning Sept. 25 at the Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost is $69 plus a $3 fee. Also this term, a Quilter's Workshop class will be held through the LBCC Sweet Home Center beginning Oct. 4. Learn how to creating a pattern called Kismet. LBCC Professional Development Class “Difficult Workplace Conversations”

The professional development class “Difficult Workplace Conversations” will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College Business and Employer Services.  Learn methods for having difficult conversations in ways that are constructive for everyone involved, and leave with a practical process that you can use to have any type of difficult conversation. Class will meet Friday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the LBCC Benton Center, room 204, 757 NW Polk Ave., Corvallis. Sausage Making Classes

Learn the art of making home made sausage in the class Making Sausage offered through LBCC Albany Community Education fall term. Chef Adrienne Ewanchyna will teach you the skills and techniques that are needed to make sausage before you invest in the equipment for making it at home. This class will focus on fresh and smoked sausage. Participants will get to take a variety of sausage home to enjoy. Second Travel at the Tripp Film “The Real World of New Zealand”

LBCC receives $2 million, the largest private gift in its history

Future site of the Advanced Transportation Technology Center in Lebanon The Linn-Benton Community College Foundation has received the largest single private gift in the 45-year history of the college from an anonymous donor. The $2 million dollar donation is to be used as a matching gift to support the construction and development of LBCC’s new Advanced Transportation Technology Center. LBCC finalized the purchase of an 11-acre site in Lebanon last week that will become home to its auto and diesel programs, and allow space to add hands-on training on alternative fuel technologies. These include compressed natural gas, propane, biofuel, hydrogen fuel cell, and electric and hybrid technologies. LBCC Americana Folk/Bluegrass Concert “The Barrel Jumpers”

The Nashville Americana folk/bluegrass band “The Barrel Jumpers” will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at the Russell Tripp Performance Center at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW., Albany. Formed in the spring of 2010, “The Barrel Jumpers” has a sound that draws from country and rock while still staying true to traditional roots music. After performing for many years in their native Idaho, siblings Rachel and Jeremy Johnson moved to Nashville in 2006 to pursue careers in country music. LBCC Touring Show "How the Monkey Lost His Tail" for pre-K–Second Grade

Limited space is still available for LBCC’s touring show How the Monkey Lost His Tail , for pre-kindergarten through second grade students with performances held on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Oct. 18 through Nov. 15. A traditional Japanese folktale of mistaken identity, the show presents students with an opportunity to connect to another culture and time period. Morning performances will be held at one school per day. Smaller schools may team-up for the same performance. At the end of the show, classes will be provided with activities guides and puppet outlines to help teachers and students design dynamic story times and projects. Space is limited. LBCC Sweet Home Center Master Gardeners Series

LBCC Sweet Home Center Food Preservation Classes

Three free food preservation classes will be held on Thursdays at the LBCC Sweet Home Center beginning Sept. 26. Taught by OSU Master Food Preservers, topics include Freezing and Dehydrating Foods on Sept. 26; Canning Fruits, James and Jellies on Oct. 18; and Canning Meats, Fish, Game and Veggies on Nov. 8 Class tuition is free, however, each class has a $7 supply fee payable in class. Parenting Success Network Now Available in Spanish

The Parenting Success Network website is now available in Spanish as well as English, thanks to the generosity of the Greater Albany Public Schools, which contributed many hours to make the translation possible. The network website is a “one-stop shop” that brings together local information and resources to make parenting easier for families in Linn and Benton counties. The site includes information about parenting education opportunities, a calendar of classes and events, descriptions and links to family serving agencies and a blog where new parenting tips are posted weekly. LBCC Pesticide Applicator Course

Do you have an employee who has studied hard but failed the Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license exam? Do you have an employee who needs in-depth training in pesticide application and safety, or extra coaching in math and calibration skills needed for accurate applications? The Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College is offering courses designed to prepare your senior agriculture workers to take the State of Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator exam. LBCC Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers Change Office Hours

The LBCC Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers have set new hours for their registration counters in an effort to increase efficiencies due to reduced staffing. The new hours will be Mondays through Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with both centers closed on Fridays. Buildings and classrooms will continue to be open and accessible to students and teachers during scheduled class times and events until 9 p.m. The LBCC Lebanon Center office closures will not affect the Department of Human Services or the Employment Division hours.   LBCC’s Benton Center and the Albany campus will continue to have services for students on Fridays.

LBCC Community Ed Class Game Maker I

The class Game Maker I will be offered through LBCC Albany Community Education beginning Sept. 24. Learn how to create your own arcade-style video games and publish on the web using iconographic, object-oriented Game Maker programming. The course serves as a jumping-off point into the multi-disciplinary game making industry. LBCC Announces Pastega Award Winners

Jayme Frazier Linn-Benton Community College announced the winners of the annual Pastega Awards at its fall in-service held Sept. 11. The awards, established in 2000, honor one faculty member and one classified staff for their outstanding contributions to the LBCC community. Jayme Frazier received the Pastega Faculty Excellence Award. Frazier, a resident of Lebanon, has served as a faculty member in health and human performance since 1993. She also serves as head coach of LBCC’s Women’s Volleyball. Carol Mahr Carol Mahr, an Albany resident, received the Pastega Classified Excellence Award. A program assistant in the Adult Basic Education/General Education department, Mahr has been employed at the college since 1997.   Each winner received a $1,000 honorarium, and their names will be engraved on the Mario and Alma Pastega Faculty and Staff Excellence plaques that hang in the LBCC Calapooia Center Distinguished Staff Gallery.

LBCC Announces Distinguished Staff Award

Carol Schaafsma Carol Schaafsma, former executive vice president at Linn-Benton Community College, received the 2012 LBCC Distinguished Staff award at the college’s fall Inservice held Sept. 11. The award was established in 1980 to recognize employees for their contribution of both time and energy to the college. Nominees must have completed 10 years of continuous employment with LBCC. Schaafsma began work at the college in 1994 as a faculty member in Contracted Training and Business Development. She was promoted in 1997 to director of Workforce Training and Business Development; in 2001, to director of Curriculum and Instructional Programs; in 2006 to vice president of Academic Affairs; and in 2008 to executive vice president of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development. LBCC agrees to purchase Lebanon site for Advanced Transportation Technology Center

Future site of LBCC ATT Center in Lebanon, Oregon -->Linn-Benton Community College has reached an agreement to purchase a former manufacturing facility in Lebanon, where it will develop an education center to train people to work in the growing industry of alternative fuel vehicles in addition to providing space to expand its existing automotive and heavy equipment/diesel technology programs. The LBCC Advanced Transportation Technology Center, which could be fully operational as soon as late 2013, will be the only major training facility in alternative fuel technology between Seattle and San Francisco. Plans also call for fueling stations for alternative fuel vehicles, such as compressed natural gas, that could support local conversion of trucking and transportation fleets to take advantage of huge fuel-cost savings. LBCC Holds Third-Annual Welcome Day Open House

Linn-Benton Community College will host its third-annual “Welcome Day” open house Wednesday, Sept. 19. The activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany campus. “Oh, The Things You Will Find!” is the theme for this year’s Welcome Day, an annual event for new and returning students to learn about what the college has to offer this school year. Festivities begin with a 10:30 a.m. kickoff in the Russell Tripp Performance Center in Takena Hall. It will feature LBCC’s award-winning choirs “The Sirens” and “Blue Light Special,” along with a welcome by LBCC President Greg Hamann.    Students can enter to win prizes, as well as a chance to win a 60-second shopping spree from the college bookstore.
