LBCC Professional Development Workshop: Effective Business Writing

The workshop Effective Business Writing: Module 1: The Top Four Ways the Reader Breaks Your Writing will be offered through LBCC Business and Employer Services Tuesday, July 23. Learn how to avoid written communication patterns that allow the reader to misinterpret your intent. Instructor Eric M. Witchey, a 25-year freelance writer, teaches the top four sources of written miscommunication, how to recognize them, and how to revise effectively. This workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Linn-Benton Community College, Calapooia Center, room CC-211, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. LBCC Volleyball Clinic for 6th–9th Graders

LBCC will hold a Summer Volleyball Clinic August 5, 6 and 7 for girls and boys who are entering grades six through nine. The clinic will provide three days of three-hour sessions that includes instruction on the all aspects of the game including serving, passing, hitting, setting, blocking and defense. Cost is $60 if registered before July 15, and $75 after. Preregistration is preferred. The clinic will be held at the LBCC Activities Center gym, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. LBCC Community Education New Summer Classes

New classes in cooking, dance, foreign language and Internet safety will be offered by Linn-Benton Community College Albany Community Education this summer. Classes include: Hint of Morocco cooking class; Latin Dance Sampler; Summer Swing Medley; Languages and Cultures of India; Spanish for Travelers; American Sign Language I & II; and the class Internet Safety. LBCC Drivers Education Classes Begin June 24

Drivers Education classes will be held this summer at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Corvallis and Lebanon beginning June 24. LBCC’s Driver Education program serves students throughout Linn and Benton counties and is approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The course includes Oregon state mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation. Registration requirements include completed packet, fee, original driver permit and one photocopy. Registration packets are available at all centers one week prior to registration or online at www.linnbenton.edu/go/driver-education. Students must register at the offering LBCC center. On-line registration is not available. Cost for the course is $259 for ages 17 and under, $429 for ages 18 and over. Class must be dropped 24 hours prior to start date for refund. LBCC Class Microbusiness Commit

The class MicroBusiness Commit, for would-be business owners, will be held at Linn-Benton Community College starting July 9. Developed for people who are ready to develop their business plan, the class will focus on writing your business plan and developing a funding strategy.   This three-week class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning July 9 in LBCC’s Forum building, room F-202. LBCC Lebanon Center Photobooks Class

The class “Make Your Own Photobooks” will be held at Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center beginning July 31. Learn how to create your own custom-made photo book using simple bookmaking software and editing tools. This four-week class meets Wednesdays beginning July 31 from 6 to 7:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost is $39. LBCC Offers Real Estate Pre-License Exam Course

A Real Estate Broker Pre-License Exam course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College beginning June 26. Designed to prepare you for the Oregon Real Estate Brokers License Exam, this 150-hour course is the fastest way to qualify to take the state exam. The local real estate market is beginning to turn around. Now is the time to position yourself for the up-turn.   This 11-week course will meet on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning June 26 at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW. Course content is mostly Internet based. Students are expected to have on-line capability, to self-study and attend all class sessions. A mandatory study session will be held on Saturday, September 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost for this non-credit course is $695. LBCC Holds 45th Annual Commencement Ceremony

The 45th annual Linn-Benton Community College Commencement Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center in the Willamette Event Center in Albany. Graduates should plan to arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. at the Santiam Building behind the Expo Center. Doors open for seating at 6 p.m. No tickets are needed to attend the ceremony. LBCC will award 1,250 degrees and certificates to 946 candidates this year, and approximately 125 students completed LBCC’s General Educational Development preparation program and will receive their certificates at commencement. A traditional bagpipe processional will be lead by the Portland Metro Pipe Band, with posting of the colors by the American Legion Travis Moothart Post 184 of Brownsville. LBCC President Dr. Greg Hamann will give the welcome and present several awards including Phi Theta Kappa and Distinguished Alumni awards.
