The public can now read historical issues of Linn-Benton Community College’s student newspaper, The Commuter , through a free online archive. The digitized back issues are hosted in CommunityArchive@LBCC , an online archive launched in summer 2017 and hosted by the LBCC Library. Student employees Chase Sublette and Bowen Orcutt digitized the 1,324 issues over the 2017-18 academic year. The first issue dates to Jan. 30, 1970 . Linn-Benton Community College will hold a “Welcome Day” open house Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. Activities will be held in the college courtyard throughout the day including choir and theater performances, poetry reading and live music, and campus groups, clubs and community organizations will have displays. A fashion show will be held in the Commons cafeteria at noon with free pizza. Students can enter a drawing to win prizes, including a 60-second shopping spree at the college bookstore. A self-led campus scavenger hunt provides a tour of campus to meet instructors and staff, and get books and school supplies. Complete the scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes, including tuition gift certificates. The activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany campus. “Oh, The Things You Will Find!” is the theme for this year’s Welcome Day, an annual event for new and returning students to learn about what the college has to offer this school year. Festivities begin with a 10:30 a.m. kickoff in the Russell Tripp Performance Center in Takena Hall. “Surfin’ Safari” is the theme of this year’s Welcome Day to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Linn-Benton Community College beginning at 10 a.m. in the Russell Tripp Performance Center theater located in Takena Hall, Albany campus. The second annual event is a chance for new and returning students to learn about all the college has to offer this school year. The festivities begin with a kickoff in the theater featuring LBCC’s award-winning choirs “The Sirens” and “Blue Light Special,” a welcome by LBCC President Greg Hamann and a reading by LBCC Poet Laureate Ruth Krueger.
