Free Pesentation: "White Fragility and the Patterns of Engagement”
Dr. Robin DiAngelo Author and educator Dr. Robin DiAngelo will give a free presentation “White Fragility and the Patterns of Engagement” Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Linn-Benton Community College’s Forum lecture hall, F-104, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Dr. DiAngelo's discussion touches upon how race shapes the lives of white people, what makes racism so hard for whites to see, and identifies common white racial patterns and speaks back to popular white narratives that work to deny racism. "White people in North America live in an insulated racial environment,” says Dr. DiAngelo. “White Fragility is a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves . . . outward display of emotions: anger, fear, and guilt, and behaviors such as argumentation, silence, and leaving the stress-inducing situation."
