New Year Fitness Classes

Get your New Year off to a fit start in a fitness class offered by LBCC Community Education staring January 4. Includes warm up activities, stretching, flexibility, walking and strength training with light hand weights. Participants with physical limitations will be given special attention. 11-weeks long beginning January 4, class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 8-8:50am at the Albany Senior Center. Cost is $89.        GENTLE EXERCISE FOR BEGINNERS Gentle, joint-safe exercises developed specifically for people with arthritis or musculoskeletal conditions, fibromyalgia, COPD, and anyone who is sedentary with limited or impaired joint-mobility. This program will help relieve stiffness, strengthen muscles, improve balance and decrease arthritis pain. Low-impact exercises can be done while sitting, standing or on the floor. 11-

LBCC Pharmacy Technician Information Sessions

LBCC Short Term Training will be holding free monthly information sessions for Phlebotomy and Sleep Technician during Winter Term. LBCC CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers

Earn your CPR certification card through Linn-Benton Community College’s CPR training class. The CPR certification is good for clinical placements up to two years. Classes will be held Feb. 6 and March 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at LBCC’s Albany Campus, Calapooia Center, room 212. Cost is $95, supplies included. This CPR class qualifies for LBCC’s requirements in the following programs: Dental Assistant, Diagnostic Imaging, Nursing/CNA, Occupational Therapy, Medical Assistant, Polysomnography, Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician. Real Estate Broker Pre-License Exam Course

A Real Estate Broker Pre-License Exam course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College starting January 13. Designed to prepare you for the Oregon Real Estate Broker License Exam, this 150-hour course is the fastest way to qualify to take the state exam. This 10-week course will meet on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning January 13 at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW in room CC-212. The course content will be mostly Internet based. Students are expected to have online capability, to self-study and attend all class sessions. A mandatory study session will be held on Saturday, the last day of the class. Real Estate Property Manager Course

A Real Estate Property Manager course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College starting January 14. Designed to prepare you to manage rental property, this course combines online and in-class instruction to meet the 60-hour requirement for the Oregon Property Manager Pre-License course. This seven-week class will meet on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning January 14 through February 25 at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW in room CC-212. Cost for this non-credit course is $550. Driver Education Classes Winter Term

The first session of Driver Education courses start January 4 through the Linn-Benton Community College Community Education Department. The course includes Oregon State mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation. The cost for the course is $265 for ages 17 and under, $445 for ages 18 and over. Students under the age of 18 may qualify for, upon successful completion of the course, a car skills testing waiver when obtaining their Driver’s License.  Don't wait to register, classes fill fast. Campus Safety: Helping you stay informed Each issue will focus on one aspect of the work being done to create a safer campus environment. This second installment addresses active shooter/weapons training. Campus Safety Emergency Response Plans Active Shooter/Weapons Incident Training: How to Respond The LBCC Campus Safety Committee continues its work and training on emergency response in the event of an active shooter situation on campus. Managers, deans and faculty are being trained on protocols, and they in turn will train staff in their areas. Everyone is encouraged to read the  protocols on the Public Safety site, and, if you have a Smart Phone, to download the Public Safety App , which links directly to the officer on duty. Always report behaviors or talk that is concerning, no matter how small they may seem. The Public Safety site has instructions on what you can do to be as prepared as possible, along with links to informative training videos. Upcoming Safety Trainings:

LBCC Foundations of Business Success Class

Foundations of Business Success will be held through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College beginning January 12. In this 10-week course, learn how to create and assess a business plan for a start-up or new business. Topics include financial management, pricing, cash flow, marketing, sales, legal topics, insurance needs, bookkeeping systems, market research, and exploring the lifestyle of a business owner. One-on-one advising included. A free orientation will be held Tuesday, January 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at LBCC in the Calapooia Center building, room CC-211, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Class will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 8:50 p.m. beginning January 12. Cost is based on income. The fee is determined and paid at orientation. Business Instructor Twila Lehman Receives Distinguished Service Award

Twila Lehman Linn-Benton Community College business technology instructor Twila Lehman received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the Oregon Business Education Association at their annual fall conference in October. Lehman, of Albany, has been a faculty member for more than 26 years. She currently teaches business technology classes, and has been instrumental in creating and updating many business courses. Lehman is a member of the Administrative Office Professional statewide consortium and of the LBCC Business Technology Advisory Committee. She also served as the LBCC Benton Center Business Technology Program Coordinator for ten years. Lehman is actively involved with the National Business Education Association (NBEA), the Western Business Education Association (WBEA), and the Oregon Business Education Association (OBEA). She has served on the OBEA Board for 12 years, and is a past president. She currently serves as the OBEA Marketing Director.

LBCC Women’s Basketball Hosts NWAC Crossover Tournament

Linn-Benton Community College Women's Basketball will host the NWAC Crossover Tournament December 18 through 20 at the college Activities Center gym, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Participating teams are Bellevue College, Columbia Basin College, Edmonds Community College, Grays Harbor College, LBCC, Pierce College, Umpqua Community College and Wenatchee Valley College. The double elimination tournament begins Friday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. starting with Pierce College playing UCC. LBCC’s first game is at 8 p.m. against Wenatchee Valley.
