LBCC 28th Annual Free Diabetes Symposium

The 28th annual free Diabetes Symposium workshop will be held at Linn-Benton Community College on Saturday, April 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Calapooia Center, Commons cafeteria, second floor, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW., Albany.

This year’s theme is “Finding Your Way: Directions to Better Health.” Join the experts as they present the latest diabetes information and conduct educational sessions. The symposium will feature a product fair featuring diabetes equipment and services, and free healthy snacks.

Keynote speakers will be Dr. David Calder with the Diabetes Wellness Assessment Program, and Adrienne Ewanchyna, owner of Indulgence Personal Chef Services.

Dr. Calder developed the Diabetes Wellness Center in Eugene, and was a cofounder of the Lane County Diabetes Association. He also served as a consultant for the Oregon Research Institute. In 1996, the Diabetes Wellness Center joined the PeaceHealth Medical Group as part of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism.

Dr. Calder was instrumental in launching the Diabetes Wellness Assessment Program in PeaceHealth Clinics in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. He is the author of the book The Diabetes Office Visit. Dr. Calder will speak on the subject: Diabetes Care, Putting You in the Driver’s Seat.

Adrienne Ewanchyna holds a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, and attended culinary art classes at LBCC. She is the owner of Indulgence Personal Chef Services, and teaches cooking classes at the college. Ewanchyna will present: Easy Summer One-Dish Meals.

This event is free and open to the public and co-sponsored by LBCC Albany Community Education and Samaritan Health Services. Pre-registration is encouraged.
