Non-Destructive Test Open House Oct. 6, 2 p.m.

A grand opening for the new Non-Destructive Test and Evaluation facilities at Linn-Benton Community College will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 6 in LBCC’s Industrial A building, IA-124, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany.

The state-of-the-art facility will provide hands-on training for the next generation of NDT technicians, using ultrasonic and x-ray testing similar to those used in the medical field to look for bone or tooth fractures.

NDT technicians test the quality, durability and reliability of materials and goods in the areas of aerospace, construction, transportation, turbine and power generation, petrochemical industry, structural, plant infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Students learn to find surface and sub-surface flaws and anomalies using ultrasonic phase array 3D imaging, radiography, penetrating dyes, magnetic particle inspection and visual inspection, without damaging the part.

Career opportunities include industries such as ATI Cast Products, Selmet Inc., WestPro Lab and others. Opportunities also exist for NDT technicians who want to move up in the industry.

Construction was made possible through bond funds approved by voters in 2014.
