LBCC SSH Gallery Features Christian Barrios: Viviendo Muerto!
The show “Viviendo Muerto!” featuring the work of marquetry artist Christian Barrios will be shown through Jan. 30 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery of Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany.
A reception and gallery talk will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. in SSH Gallery.
Born in Mexico City, Barrios learned ceramic painting at a very young age. After moving to the US, he learned the art of marquetry and now creates beautiful images from exotic woods on panel.
“Every time I start working on a new piece of art, I experiment with the exotic wood to form my work,” said Barrio. “Each becomes a new challenge for me and it motivates and inspires me to create.”
Along with several large-scale, inlayed wood pieces, the show includes some of Barrios’ photography. His sensitive black and white images of “The Day of the Dead” exude beauty and embody the sentiment of his show title, which translates to: “What is dead is alive!”
LBCC’s South Santiam Hall Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
