LBCC Calapooia Gallery Exhibit: Jessie Barnhouse

Paintings by Jessie Barnhouse of Alsea are on display through May 3 in the Calapooia Center Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany, Ore.

A former fine art major at LBCC, Barnhouse is exhibiting five new pieces done in oil, watercolor, acrylic, encaustic and spray paint in various combinations. Barnhouse is a member of the Temporary Artists Guild and is also known for her work in clay and jewelry, which she sells at the Eugene Saturday Market.

She attended Southern Oregon University after graduating from Alsea High School in 1997, left school to raise a family, and began taking classes at LBCC in 2008.

“After several years spent working and raising my boys, I found myself at LBCC and back on the path of going to school for art,” she said. “I love to learn and experiment with new ways of expression. That’s probably why I found putting together a collection for this show so difficult; too many directions and no ‘voice,’ at least not yet.”

The Calapooia Center Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
