LBCC Offers Driver Education Classes Winter Term

Several Driver Education classes are being offered winter term through Linn-Benton Community College Albany Community Education. The course includes Oregon state mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation. Registration requirements include completed packet, fee, original driver permit and one photocopy. Registration packets are available at all centers one week prior to registration or online at www.linnbenton.edu/driver-education. First class session starts Jan. 6. Cost for the course is $259 for ages 17 and under, $429 for ages 18 and over. Class must be dropped 24 hours prior to start date for refund. Home & Garden Classes

A variety of home and garden classes will be offered Linn-Benton Community College’s Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers winter term. The free"Winter Gardening Series” will help you sharpen your gardening skills. This eight-week series taught by OSU Master Gardeners covers a wide variety of subjects of interest to the home gardener, with a different topic covered each week. Series meets Thursdays from Noon to 12:50 p.m. beginning Jan. 9. List of topics is available at the LBCC Lebanon Center. Not your typical gardening class, the "Effortless Gardening Workshop" offers instruction in the easy movements of the Feldenkrais Method of movement using tools and equipment with less pain. This workshop meets two Saturdays, Jan. 11 and 18, from 9 to 11:20 a.m. at the Lebanon Center Annex, 44 Industrial Way. Cost is $24. LBCC Lebanon Center Dog Training

"Dog Obedience" and “Puppy Kindergarten” classes will be held through the Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center starting Jan. 9. “Dog Obedience” covers basic commands and equipment, socialization, rewarding good behavior, breaking bad behavior, games and tricks, and responsible pet ownership. Veterinary shot records and dog history form are required. This 10-week class will meet at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St., Thursdays from 6:30-7:20 p.m. beginning Jan. 9. Cost is $39. "Puppy Kindergarten" is designed specifically for puppies 16-weeks and younger that are not fully vaccinated. Class will focus on walking on a leash, appropriate interaction with other dogs of the same age and appropriate play. Pain Relief Now Class

The class "Pain Relief Now" is being offered by the LBCC Lebanon Center starting Jan. 9. Class introduces self-help techniques for relief of musculoskeletal pain and addresses pain symptoms in your muscle groups and joints, and for arthritis. Learn active isolated stretch techniques to enhance joint function and return to a more useful movement pattern. This six-week class meets Thursdays from 10 to 10:50 a.m. beginning Jan. 9 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent Street. Cost is $32. Free Phlebotomy Information Sessions

Several free Phlebotomy Program information sessions will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College for those interested in training to become a phlebotomist. January session times and dates are Thursday, Jan. 9,10 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional sessions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, noon to 2 p.m., and Monday, March 10, noon to 2 p.m. All sessions will be held at the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. No preregistration is required to attend. Attendance at one of the information sessions is mandatory to register for the program. The 16-week Phlebotomy Program training starts July 28 and runs through Nov. 14, 2014 at the Lebanon Community Hospital Health Careers Training Center and the LBCC Lebanon Center. AARP Driver Safety Program



AARP Driver Safety Program is being offered through Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Corvallis and Sweet Home starting Jan. 6. AARP’s program is designed to help develop and reinforce safe driving skills and techniques. Satisfactory completion of this class may qualify you for reduced auto insurance premiums (check with your insurance carrier). This one-week class will meet Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 6 and 7, from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Albany Senior Center, or at the Corvallis Senior Center. Class also will meet from 1 to 3:50 p.m. at the LBCC Sweet Home Center. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.
