Pesticides Applicator Class in Spanish

Pesticide applicator class in Spanish will be held through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College. Designed to prepare senior agriculture workers to take the State of Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator exam, classes provide in-depth training, including extra coaching in math and calibration skills. Pesticide Laws and Safety in Spanish will be held Oct. 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at LBCC’s Calapooia Center, room CC- 205. Cost is $99. LBCC Theater Department Call for Auditions for “Tango Mike”

Auditions for Linn-Benton Community College’s fall play “Tango Mike (Thanks Much)” will be held Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. in the LBCC Russell Trip Performance Center Theater in Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. “Tango Mike” is an original play based on the lives and stories of local Afghanistan and Iraq veterans and their families who are suffering from the effects of PTSD. The play is part of a Community Collaborative Play-Making process by which topical issues concerning micro-communities are brought to the forefront in the form of a play, through the collaboration and participation of members of these micro-communities. The class “Google Apps for You” will be held through Linn-Benton Community College Community Education starting Oct. 21. This six-week class will help you organize, collaborate and communicate with Google gmail, calendar, drive, voice and more. Lebanon Center GED/Adult Basic Education

GED and Adult Basic Education classes will be held starting the week of Sept. 29 at Linn-Benton Community College’s Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Develop your skills in reading, writing or math to improve your score on the Computerized Placement Test or to prepare for the GED test. Free two-day orientations are required to get started. Lebanon Center Dog Obedience

The class "Dog Obedience" will be held through Linn-Benton Community College at the Lebanon Senior Center Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. starting Oct. 1. This 10-week class will cover basic commands, proper equipment, socialization, rewarding good and breaking bad behavior, games and tricks, and responsible pet ownership. Veterinary shot record and history form required. Dogs do not attend the first day of class. Cost is $49. NEW Class – Mountain Bike Mojo

A new mountain biking class, “Mountain Bike Mojo,” will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College Community Education Oct. 11 and 12. This two-day clinic will provide the basic skills and techniques for participants to increase their enjoyment in the fast growing sport of mountain biking. The new Alsea Falls "flow trail" is the training ground for this course. The program will include one day of basic bike handling skills, including body positioning and balance, braking, shifting and pedaling efficiency, climbing and descending, front and back wheel lifts, cornering, small drops, pumping and navigating trail obstacles. The next morning, students will “get dirty” with a hands-on trail building courtesy of local IMBA chapter Team Dirt. Computer Application Classes

Beginning computer application classes will be held at the Linn-Benton Community College’s Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers fall term. Computers-First Step is for those who have little or no computer experience and need hands-on, step-by-step instruction. This four-week class meets Tuesdays from 6 to 8:20 p.m. beginning Sept. 30 at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Cost is $45. A variety of arts and crafts classes will be held this fall through Linn-Benton Community College’s Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers. LBCC Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education

Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education (CCB) will be offered through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College. This five session course will meet Tuesday evenings starting Oct. 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. at LBCC’s Albany campus, Calapooia Center room CC-211. The course is required for CCB licensing as part of the education requirement before taking the State of Oregon CCB exam. Participants are required to attend all five of the state-approved sessions to satisfy the educational requirement for Oregon contractor licensing. LBCC Announces Pastega Award Winners

Linn-Benton Community College announced Pastega award winners at the college’s Inservice Day Sept. 16. Bryan Schiedler of Philomath received the Pastega Faculty Excellence Award. Schiedler, automotive technology instructor and department chair, began work at LBCC in 1996. He was nominated for his efforts in creating the LBCC Advanced Transportation Technology Center, which has been recognized both locally and nationally with a focus on the latest automotive technology and alternative fuels training. M’Liss Runyon, of Corvallis, received the Pastega Classified Excellence Award. A graphic designer in the LBCC College Advancement Office, Runyon has been employed at the college since 2006. She was nominated for her positive and creative support of college marketing efforts. LBCC’s Pastega awards, established in 2000 by the late Mario Pastega, honor one faculty member and one classified staff for their outstanding contributions to the LBCC community. Real Estate Property Manager Course

A Real Estate Property Manager course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College beginning October 2. Designed to prepare you to manage rental property, this course combines online and in-class instruction to meet the 60-hour requirement for the Oregon Property Manager Pre-License course. LBCC Contracting with the Government Class

The class “Responding to Federal Solicitation” on contracting with the government will be offered through the LBCC Small Business Development Center Thursday, Sept. 25 from Noon to 2 p.m. at the LBCC Albany campus, Luckiamute Center building, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. LBCC Students Awarded $5,000 Oregon Space Grant Scholarships

Five Linn-Benton Community College students were awarded $5,000 scholarships from the Oregon NASA Space Grant Consortium, part of Oregon State University. The students and their majors are Hazel Betz, physics; Aaron Groves, physics; Brian Riedy, engineering; Brianna Smith-Sparks, physics; and Levi Willmeth, computer science. Catherine Lanier, associate director of OSGC at OSU, wrote in an email announcing the winners, “We had a significant increase in the number and quality of applications this year, making the award selections very competitive and difficult. There were many deserving students!” Scholarships were awarded to 12 community college students, 15 university students, and seven undergraduate research projects throughout the state. Call for Volunteer Facilitators

Volunteers are needed to facilitate small group training sessions held at Linn-Benton Community College for students in varied medical fields. No medical experience necessary. Students from Linn-Benton Community College, CompNW Medical School and Oregon State University will work together in small, interdisciplinary group sessions, including students in the fields of pharmacy, medical assisting, nursing, physician and public health. Volunteer facilitators help students work through real-life case scenarios during each session. Sessions are designed to help students to communicate and work together across their varied medical disciplines. Real Estate Pre-License Broker Exam Course

A Real Estate Pre-License Broker Exam course will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College starting October 1. Designed to prepare you for the Oregon Real Estate Brokers License Exam, this 150-hour course is the fastest way to qualify to take the state exam. The local real estate market is turning around, so position your self for the up-turn.  This 11-week course will meet on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 1 at the LBCC Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. Course content is mostly Internet based. Students are expected to have on-line capability, to self-study and attend all class sessions. Blood Draw Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed for Linn-Benton Community College phlebotomy program’s annual public blood draw to help students meet their blood draw quotas before going to work at clinical sites. The class MicroBiz Explore will be held through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College beginning September 23. Explore the possibilities of starting your own business. LBCC Veterinary Assistant Information Sessions

Four free Veterinary Assistant Program information sessions will be held at Linn-Benton Community College in September and October for those interested in training to become a Veterinary Assistant. These pre-application sessions will be held Wednesday, September 17, 10 a.m.- noon; Tuesday, October 7, 1-3 p.m.; Thursday, October 16, 11 a.m-1 p.m.; and Tuesday, October 21, noon-2 p.m. at the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center, room CC-212. Attendance at one information session is mandatory in order to take the program. No preregistration needed to attend. The 17-week LBCC Veterinary Assistant Program starts Jan. 5 and runs through May 1, 2015.
