Lebanon Center Summer Classes

There’s still time to register for a fun summer class through Community Education at Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center. Explore your artistic talents in the Corks and Canvas class while enjoying the atmosphere at Mark’s Ridge winery. No experience necessary. Supplies are provided as well as your first glass of “inspiration.” Class will meet at the winery Thursday, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. Cost is $39. Buying and Selling Online will get you ready to sell those unwanted items collecting dust. Learn how to effectively use Craigslist, eBay and Etsy. Basic computer and online search skills required. LBCC Volleyball Clinic for 7–9th Graders

A Summer Volleyball Clinic will be held at Linn-Benton Community College August 3, 4 and 5 for students entering grades seven through nine. The clinic provides three days of three-hour sessions with instruction on all aspects of the game including serving, passing, hitting, setting, blocking and defense. Clinic meets from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day in the LBCC Activities Center gym, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Cost is $60 per player if registered before July 20, and $75 after. LBCC Offers QuickBooks Classes

Learn the basics of QuickBooks in classes offered through Linn-Benton Community College Small Business Development Center. Guided Tour QuickBooks is a four-hour class designed for those with no previous experience using a computer-based accounting system.  Class will meet June 23 and 25, from 2 to 3:50 p.m. in the LBCC Forum building, room F-202, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Cost for this non-credit class is $69.   QuickBooks I class is designed to help you set up an accounting system using QuickBooks 2015. This 10-hour class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays June 30 to July 14 from 2 to 3:50 p.m. in the Forum building, room F-202. Cost for this non-credit class is $195. LBCC Offers Forklift Safety Training

Forklift Safety Training will be offered through Business and Employer Services at Linn-Benton Community College Saturday, June 27 from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the college, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. This eight-hour course will provide four hours of classroom training and four hours of practice on the forklift. Training includes forklift safety, handling and moving loads, principles of lifting, stacking and un-stacking loads and driving with a load. Upon completion of eight hours of training and meeting the requirements, student will receive an award of completion to take to their current or future employer. LBCC Parenting Education Receives $50k OPEC Grant

Linn-Benton Community College Parenting Education received a $50,000 renewal grant from the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative. The grant is part of a multi-year initiative supporting expansion of high-quality parenting education programs and a stronger, more coordinated parenting education system statewide. The Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative is comprised of the Oregon Community Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust, The Ford Family Foundation, The Collins Foundation and Oregon State University. LBCC was in the first group of six programs to participate in this initiative, which has grown to 15 programs since 2010. This will be the sixth year of LBCC’s participation, bringing the total funding awarded to $440,000. LBCC’s project, named the Parenting Success Network, supports parenting education classes throughout Linn and Benton counties as well as numerous public awareness activities and efforts to build collaborative partnerships. New Summer Teen Class Series

This summer, a variety of new, fun classes for teens ages 14-18 will be held through Linn-Benton Community College’s Community Education. Students can choose from recreation, adventure, cooking, arts, crafts, and more including Geocaching with GPS, Video Storytelling, “Hey, Cool Shirt” t-shirt design, Mountain Bike Mojo, Backyard Beekeeping, and Teen Ranch horse camp. LBCC Community Ed Staff Recognized by National Industry Association

Chelsea Nordby Chris Nystrom Chris Nystrom, director of the Community Education Department at Linn-Benton Community College, and Chelsea Nordby, coordinator of Community Education for LBCC Benton County, have received the designation of Certified Program Planner by the Learning Resources Network, an international association in lifelong learning. The CCP designation reflects demonstrated in-depth knowledge in ten key areas of lifelong learning. Nystrom and Nordby will be recognized at LERN's annual conference in December. "The CPP designation is a standard of achievement in the knowledge and understanding of lifelong learning," noted LERN President William Draves. "Certified Program Planners are recognized as professionals in the field of educational programming." Founded in 1974, LERN has over 4,500 members, with 3,000 CPP's awarded throughout the world. LBCC Tractor & Farm Machinery Safety Class

A three day Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety Training will be held at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany starting June 16. Popular among youth ages 14-18, the State of Oregon permits youth starting at age 14 to operate power-driven farm machinery for employers provided they pass training in a vocational agricultural safety program. LBCC’s course places emphasis on safety, and is operated in accordance with federal regulations. The class involves some initial hands on training with farm machinery. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that tractor accidents on farms cause the highest number of fatalities, with tractor overturns accounting for 44 percent of all tractor fatalities. The class meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Cost for this non-credit course is $96.50 and includes materials.
