Benton Center Fall Community Education Classes

LBCC Benton Center offers the following photography and computer classes designed to enhance your personal and professional skills starting the week of Sept. 28. 

PERSONAL COMPUTER ESSENTIALS I: This class is for those who have never touched a computer before and want hands-on, step-by-step instruction. Designed to go at an easy pace. Includes identifying the various parts of the computer, how to turn it on and off and use the mouse and keyboard. Also introduces working with Windows 7, and a brief intro to email and the Internet. This three-week class meets Tuesdays from 1-2:50 p.m. starting Sept. 29 at the LBCC Benton Center. Cost is $49.

APPLE IPHONE: Get to know your iPhone's basic functions and useful features. Explore the touchscreen interface, type with the intelligent keyboard, setup your email account, and confidently manage your preferences in the Settings menu. Take advantage of standard iPhone Apps (Camera, Maps, Notes, and Music) and download new apps from the App Store. Suitable for iPhone beginners, using any generation of iPhone device. This four-week class meets Thursdays from 3 to 4:50 p.m. starting Oct. 1. Cost is $59.

APPLE IPAD I:  Get the most from your iPad through understanding the essential elements of its operating system. Learn tips and shortcuts for using the iPad's virtual keyboard, organizing your desktop icons, how to quit open apps and restart your iPad when needed. Course material also applies to iPhone and iPod Touch. Class meets Mondays from 7 to 8:50 p.m. starting Sept. 28. Cost is $49.

MAC ESSENTIALS I:  Get the most from your Mac and learn the essential elements of its operating system, discover the basic layout of OS X, and learn tips and shortcuts for navigating your computer, as well as the basics of word processing and printing. For new Mac users. Class meets Wednesdays from 7 to 8:50 p.m. starting Sept. 30. Cost is $49.

BUYING AND SELLING ONLINE: Get ready to sell those unwanted items or start an online business by learning how to effectively use Craigslist, eBay, and Etsy. Explore shopping options and popular marketplace services while learning to create ads to attract buyers and other strategies to get results and protect you as both buyer and seller. Class meets Mondays from 5 to 6:50 p.m. starting Sept. 28. Cost is $59. 
              
GOOGLE APPS FOR YOU: Learn some of the most widely used online tools and how to organize, collaborate and communicate with Google Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Voice and more. Improve utilization of docs, spreadsheets, presentations and forms for business and/or personal needs in this hands-on course. This four-week class meets Wednesdays from 5 to 6:50 p.m. starting Oct. 7. Cost is $69.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS: Aimed at non-technical users, learn key techniques and how to use website analytics using the world-standard Google Analytics, a free online tool. Understand your visitor traffic better, learn how to calculate return on investment (ROI) for your online advertising, and find out how to get more conversions and sales from your website visitors. A must for anyone serious about leveraging more success from their website. Starting Oct. 5, this online class will be offered over four weeks. Participate at your own pace. Cost is $195. PHOTOGRAPHY- SPORTS ACTION SHOTS: Learn to tell the story of the event from beginning to end, drawing your audience into the action for years to come. Understand the techniques and tools needed to take the images you see in newspapers and magazines of local and professional sporting events. Bring your own digital camera. Course includes a hands-on photography field trip.     Three-week class meets Tuesdays from 5 to 6:50 p.m. starting Sept. 29. Cost is $49.

CLOSE UP/MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY:  Designed for those intrigued by close-up photos of flowers, insects, textures, and other intricate subjects in the world around you. Discover how to master the art and science, techniques and tools, of close-up/macro photography. Find out how highly acclaimed photographers capture those breath-taking images and then create your own beautiful macro photographs. Class meets Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m., Saturday, Oct.  3, from 9 to 10:50 a.m., and again Thursday, Oct. 8 from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Cost is $59.

PHOTOGRAPHY: VIVID WILDLIFE & LANDSCAPES. Capture your experience in your own backyard or at the local wildlife preserve. Develop your creative vision as you explore techniques related to composition, lighting and perspective. Understand the basics of capturing motion and macro-photography. Bring your digital camera. Course includes a hands-on photography field trip. Three-week class meets Tuesdays from 5 to 6:50 p.m. starting Oct. 13. Cost is $49.

YOUR DIGITAL SLR CAMERA will help you find out ways to use your brand new or older digital SLR camera more effectively and creatively. Maximize your camera's features beyond full auto to get the effects you desire. Practice using the f-stop for depth of field, stopping the action of fast moving events and make it look like a pro took every picture. Includes a photo shoot to apply what you have learned and work with Adobe Photoshop Elements for simple photo editing and enhancement. Class meets Wednesdays from 7 to 8:50 p.m. starting Oct. 7. Cost is $79.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING: This series of online IT training classes aimed at launching a potentially lucrative, high demand career as a certified computer technician, network technician, or systems/network security analyst, and can be started and completed at any time throughout the term.
